Thats what the zoom key is for, personally if I'm in a building with an smg or pistol.
I don't want or need it zooming, it limits my view and kinda makes me feel sick also.
When I need the zoom I just press shift.

lol the crap in this thread is just amazingly dumb.. greater FOV = better peripheral vision derp, so people who don't have like eyefinity setups etc can see off to their sides basically and have a more real to life advantage instead of the small default FOV.. can't believe that one guy is just trying to say people only want it cause it makes them less motion sick or some crap lol.. I've been playing with the default but I tried out 90 and liked it, just didn't like the clipping issues near walls.

So yeah normal 70 is basically putting you at a disadvantage against people who are using higher cause they have a wider field of view.

Have to chime in here. This is a *huge* deal for me. I absolutely *hate* low FoVs.

I don't feel sick, but it just feels totally unnatural to me to walk into a room and then have to spend a view seconds panning around to see all the corners. It's like I've lost my peripheral vision and am viewing the world through a toilet roll or telescope. 90 is a great sweet spot between OTT fisheye and the horrible blinkered zoom of low FoVs.

Please make sure that this gets added back in in future.

It really should not have been an extra feature IMO, but an essential feature.

(I should say that haven't seen how bad it looks yet with the latest patch, but I have had bad experiences with other games however always been able to alter it to my liking permanently via console or ini)

I'll reiterate and expand on what Yoshiro said. The ability to adjust the FOV between 70-90, as well as the ability to set different FOV zoom for ironsights were features that were added very late in the dev. Mostly I did it as a personal favor to Zetsumei, and I stayed late one nite and worked til almost 2 in the morning one evening to get those features added into the game (unplanned and unscheduled features). Both of the features ended up causing a lot of bugs. We spent a LOT of time trying to fix the bugs (too much time to be honest) and decided to pull official support for these last minute features.

The game was developed for 5 years with a default FOV of 70 (on a 4:3 monitor, which is actually 80+ FOV on a widescreen monitor, which is pretty close to the FOV of Ostfront). After testing with 90 we discovered it caused a lot MORE clipping issues (yes there are a few remaining clipping issues at 70 degrees, but they are FAR worse at 90). They were bad enough we felt we couldn't officially support them for shipping, and there wasn't time to fix bugs in an unplanned feature. The ability to set an FOV up to 90 will likely return post release after we fix the clipping issues with it. It will also include an "are you sure you want to do this, you may get bad performance" warning when you set your FOV that high.

Regarding the weapon zoom settings, those don't have any exploitative benefits, but they also don't work 100%. So we took them out of the settings menu, but left the functionality in game. So those of you that still want to use them, feel free to set them up in your ini, they will still work. But because of the issues with them, we can't officially support them right now. And as this was an unplanned feature, we didn't have time to fix ALL of the bugs with them. Essentially, if your monitor is set to certain resolutions (5:4 for example) it could still cause your aim to get off. Now those of you that are willing to take the risk, feel free to edit the inis. In the future we'll likely fix the remaining bugs with the system, and add the settings back to the menu.

In summary, these were last minute features that I BUSTED MY REAR to try and get it. They just didn't quite make the cut for tommorow, but will be back in the future.

Thanks for the info and its about what I expected, minus the favor to Zets part :p

I do look forward to an expanged FOV myself when the time permits, but understand why it was cut for the time being. Really looking forward to the full release and those great reviews TWI will be getting!

I've been playing on 85, which feels "right" to me at least, in widescreen modes. Not too extreme, but also not the "face against the camera lens" effect I feel when playing with 75 or lower :)

I'll be making the manual tweak with read-only trick - I don't care about the gameplay effect of seeing a smaller area @ 75, but I do care about the way it "feels" to me when playing. I can absolutely understand why FOV75 causes motion sickness for some people - it isn't a natural feeling at all in my opinion, when the camera is rotated. If people are happy with 75 that's fine, but it's hardly "normal" compared to real life - regardless of how much periphery is out of focus, you really can see a crapload more than a 75 degree field. I prefer my setup to mimic real life as closely as possible, not simply mimic the last FPS I played because that's the "done thing" :)

Please give us that option back again. 70-75 may be okay with a big 16:9 monitor, but it really narrows the sight for users, that have a 4:3 or 5:4 resolution as well as causing headache for some including me.

What kind of risks are we talking about here ?
Just facing the barely noticeable clipping bugs or being kicked by punkbuster or banned by VAC ?

I dont mind editing the ini file myself as long as I dont put myself in a situation where I could get banned.

Can we get a clear explanation on this please ?

Some should really read the thread before posting... It is still possible to modify the fov and zoom ratios, it is not supported officially and you can have some bugs, but you can modify it in .ini files.

Its quite inconvenient though as it will reset to default if you open the settings menu in-game and there is still no info about how pb will like it.

Indeed, a clear idea of how PB/VAC will react to these ini tweaks would be very much appreciated :) Once the "release" client is out, I'll be doing some SP to fill in blanks found while running the beta client - but I'd like to know if I'm risking a VAC ban before I go back online again :) I don't really feel like climbing that particular mountain with Valve support! :)

I think it is clear there is no support for the FOV right now but .inis are not anti-cheat protected. For the FOV Cvar at least.

You don't need to change settings every time and I don't think pb/vac would be a problem unless we can't trust Ramm:

Ok, I can almost live with FOV=75 on widescreen monitor.
But how do you change the ironsight-zoom setting?

Really hate to walk around fully-zoomed inside buildings. Really prefer to set the ironsight at almost zero zoom, and use the Shift as zoom/focus.
