Hey Knil if I use read only on that file does that mean any changes I made in the menu BEFORE making it read only will now have no effect (and it will only use the INI?) Like the other graphical settings I mean and manual botling. Do I need to make all my options changes in the INI?

Uncheck read only and do all other settings first before you do the FOV edit.

The FoV cap change was implemented mostly due to performance issues. There are other aspects of it that need work as well.

The weapon specific fov changes were removed due to a bug that would cause players not to hit what they were shooting at.

Both of these were last minute additions to the game that did not work out properly. So they have been rolled back out for additional work/changes as needed.
OK well I really really really hope you guys add them back in when they've been fixed. The Zoom sliders were awesome that really allowed me to customize my experience to my liking.

But on the other hand, I also noticed my rifle not shooting where I was pointing it. Please fix these features and add them back in as soon as possible!

I cannot stand playing games at low fov; it makes me nauseous and hurts my eyes. This is for console games. PC fps games should allow 90 degrees fov at the bare minimum.

Odd.... I keep mine always at 70-75 regardless of the game.... I can't stand that fisheye bubbly looking gameplay of 90 or more.... it just looks un-natural, your arms are elongated, everything around the edges of the screen are stretched, it's just bad.

For what I don't see on my screen, I rely on my ears.... never had a problem before.

I did try tweaking my FOV a few years back in the Half-Life/TFC era and it just looks horrible.

But to each their own.

I am sure this will be fixed. But for now, just edit the FOV through the ini files and you will be good to go, make 100 if you would like :p

75 isnt Console FOV, 60-65 is.

75 is the optimal FoV for a 1680x1050 monitor, which is the most common used resolution for PCs at "this" time. So the choice of 75 can only have been the right choice from Tripwire, to us PC gamers.

If you get motion sickness because you are used to 90+FoV, then shame on you for using that high FOV without needing to, unless you are 19xx or using 3 monitors.

1920x1080 is the most common at this time. Has been for awhile.

Wrong. There is no optimal fov for a given resolution, it's based on preference. And if you ask most veteran fps players they will tell you 90+ fov is preferred. So why limit it? It's a tradeoff anyway; the higher the fov, the less detail you can see. That's the whole rationale behind the zoom feature anyway.

I stand corrected, not by a huge deal though. I can understand why those with 1920 would like 80-85 at max for their monitor. I still dont understand people wanting more then 90, it'll just strain the eyes when you play a game with actual normal FOV.

Actually, there is. You should google it. Its a myth that people started using, in the RTS scene having 400 APM means you are an absolute god, no your not, the figure means nothing. In FPS, pros use 90+ FOV, not because its smart, because someone did it and people thought it looked and sounded cool.

Its just like gamers that want 200 FPS in their game instead of 100, because 200 obviously feels 2x better to play at. Yeeaaahh..

The game was developed for 5 years with a default FOV of 70 (on a 4:3 monitor, which is actually 80+ FOV on a widescreen monitor, which is pretty close to the FOV of Ostfront). After testing with 90 we discovered it caused a lot MORE clipping issues (yes there are a few remaining clipping issues at 70 degrees, but they are FAR worse at 90). They were bad enough we felt we couldn't officially support them for shipping, and there wasn't time to fix bugs in an unplanned feature. The ability to set an FOV up to 90 will likely return post release after we fix the clipping issues with it. It will also include an "are you sure you want to do this, you may get bad performance" warning when you set your FOV that high.

Wait, so what used to be FOV90 on a 4:3 monitor in RO1 is now FOV80+ on a widescreen. Wow, just wow, I don't know what's worse. Having the top and bottom cut off in RO1 or having the sides cut off in RO2.

Regarding the weapon zoom settings, those don't have any exploitative benefits, but they also don't work 100%. So we took them out of the settings menu, but left the functionality in game. So those of you that still want to use them, feel free to set them up in your ini, they will still work. But because of the issues with them, we can't officially support them right now. And as this was an unplanned feature, we didn't have time to fix ALL of the bugs with them. Essentially, if your monitor is set to certain resolutions (5:4 for example) it could still cause your aim to get off. Now those of you that are willing to take the risk, feel free to edit the inis. In the future we'll likely fix the remaining bugs with the system, and add the settings back to the menu.

Wait again, so if problems persist on 5:4 monitors, how about 16:10 monitors, which is also a non-standard resolution?

Normal for you may be 70, Suspense. But for others it's 110, etc. That's the point. It's a preference like mouse sensitivity; why limit it?

I totally understand that some people have made it a habbit to use that high of an FOV. The only point i was making is that THEY themselfs are at fault for the eye strain, or possible headache that they get when playing games that has no FOV option, or for games that has an FOV option but limited.

It depends whether the FOV is vertical of horizental, but 65 for 1680x1050 and 60 for 1920x1080 is the FOV choices that will keep the FOV fair, provide minimal eye strain and no fish eye effects. If people want to go over this, to "see" more in less detail, then fine i dont care. Just dont come whining that you cant play a game that runs at normal FOV settings.

This is so wrong. Play more fps games, please.

Mind you, i've played FPS games since i was 5 years old.

The reason why people want higher fov is to lessen the eye strain and fish eye effect. If you do not understand this, I don't know what else to say. You may be new to this sort of thing.

Not joking at all. You just seem to be intolerant. I have noted that fov is a preference among gamers. Some like it low, some like it high. You on the other hand want to tell everyone the "proper" fov is a certain value, without giving any reasons why.

A higher fps will give you a significant advantage at top level play of a fps. Much smoother movement and aim. Talk to some quake1/2/3 players about it. A larger fov gives you more information and a more realistic real life field of view although targets in front of you appear smaller which is a tradeoff.

Either way it will be implemented again soon and you can edit the ini file now anyways.

In summary, these were last minute features that I BUSTED MY REAR to try and get it. They just didn't quite make the cut for tommorow, but will be back in the future.

Sorry the hear it caused you so many problems.

I will be missing the zoom sliders as i cant stand smg/pistol with it so zoomed.
Ill probably change it in the ini and see how it goes.

80fov has been my choice in any game I could change it for years. So 80 to 75 is not a huge change for me, I fully understand why people that played on 90 are unhappy though.

hopefully it will not be to hard to get these issues sorted.
