Is there anyway to get other voices other then the English guy? Im tired of hearing only his voice. I think Tripwire should make an update with new voices I mean, it shouldn't be hard to implement since they already put in more weapons and levels. I don't know why they got lazy on that part...

I think it's because this original voice is amazing, and most people like it?
It's always makes me laugh or atleast smile.

The problem is memory overhead and the way the engine handles audio. While the music is streamed from file, everything else is cached. This is one reason why there's also no female chars and more recently why some audio was removed in this xmas update (making room for new weapon audio).

I've never seen a game that needed to make room for more content before, Unreal Engine must be one ****ty engine if once you finish a game with it you have a limit of how much stuff you can add to it with updates before needing to delete stuff to make room...

These limitations are not imposed by the engine but rather the player's own computer and I'm sure you've seen plenty of games remove content to ship, just not know about it.

It's a touch more complicated than that, yes the unreal 2.5 engine (that's a rather old engine now mind you) isn't the most stable, but still better than a lot of others.

Last year during the event TWI just added a load of new stuff on top and it caused a load of problems for peeps with machines just on the line of memory. And even some for those that good machines. So to avoid making content just to then loose chunks of regular loyal players and have to deal with the fall out they attempt to keep strict memory limits, hence why the xmas zeds are not as detailed as they once were and things like weapon stockpiling was striped out.

Edit, and yet they manage to keep adding new shiny toys in. And before you decry that the weapons will take up as much space. You are looking at ~100mb for a new voice. Where is a weapon is going to be about ~20mb. Much smaller hit for a lot more.

I only pray to Allahandro that Gewehr 41 is added before the limit is maxed.
I wonder if there is a way to work around this problem by allowing a user to enable or disable which weapons one can choose to shop for.
But I think that may be way too much of a work for a simple change like that... :(

And re: OP, I think the voices are fine...and what Gartley said.

Why not add an audio details option? Basically it would be like the UT announcers: it can either say a few lines or all of them, you can choose a preset limit or no limit to how many unique voices your comp uses per session. For each holiday event just add in an extra option for the drop down box to either use or not use all the event voices then remove it when the event ends.

People with the specs to handle the sounds would love them back, just like the people who can push the graphics up to the highest like using those and not lowest detail.

KF already has an option for often you hear transitions and such. It's not a case of how often something 'transmits' the audio has to be loaded into memory. Even if you were to disable audio though the options menu (I think you can. Not sure) Your system would still load the files to memory because the engine would need to reference them even if it didn't play it back.

Ahem,L4D2 is now 2 times bigger than it actually was when it was released(they DOUBLED the number of campaign maps, added tons of new models, textures etc)

Why cant KF do the same? We're talking about sound files and textures here, and they're nothing like a gigantic map filled with new content. Its like Valve forced everyone to download their 9001 gigabytes update.

You are talking about HDD space, which is different from memory requirements. Assets from killing floor are loading into the active memory. You don't have enough RAM you start getting problems.

New voices would be kinda nice, like a new voice for each character. but i could imagine that would cost alot of money and take up way too much time.:IS2:
