New to the game!

Hi there, I'm about to buy this game on steam today, however there is a question I have for all of you guys.

Should I just buy the base game, or should I get the bundle which has all the DLC characters? (Yes I am aware they are just reskins and such, but what if they're really cool looking?)

The bundle is not a special deal, it's the same cost as the game, plus the four individual character packs. What I recommend you do is, look at all of the characters from the packs, find one you really like, and only buy the pack that character is associated with. If you are a person who likes to change skins often, then all of the packs might be beneficial to you.

Yes, I suggest you look through the DLCs and find one or two you like the most. Or, if you want to help Tripwire Interactive out of the charity of your heart and also happen to like all the DLCs, go for the bundle.

No, the character packs are already in the game (otherwise you won't be able to see other people who have them) and it's basically a CD key that automatically activates when you pay for it. Cheap one, too.

No, it should be unlocked for you once you start the game and go to choose your character. It doesn't need a separate download.

I thought the DLC more of unlocked existing content is in the game, but not active until you buy it, or at least thats my understanding of it (cant recall if I had to download)

check the character selection screen in-game, if the characters are there then you are good to go

Also, one more question. Commando or Support Specialist? I tend to like assault rifles more, but I like me some shotguns and I like being a damage dealer for the team and I heard assault rifles are sort of weak.

Commandos are a special breed; if you have a thing for their weapons and are good with constant medium range burt headshots, then I say go for it. Support is a really good begginner perk, though, as you can deal tons of damage if you do it right. However, support is extremely range- and enemy-density- based, so you need to make sure you have a good position (while commandos can sweep the "trash" (aka weaker specimen) from any range).

Also, you see that little black box in the upper left-hand corner of some posts? The little blac-and-white steam box is a way of contacting that post's maker over steam, so just click that box and friend away! Many members here are very newguy-friendly, so feel no fear in contacting anyone.

You'll find that Commando is a "sweeper" meaning that it clears up the remains of a burst of heavy firepower and it's often used for controlling crowds of smaller, weaker enemies quickly and efficiently.

Support spec keeps doors welded shut, takes advantage of chokepoints and packs some heavy-hitting weapons, great for beginners.

As others have said, Commando is mainly a sweeper class whereas Support excels at taking out big groups of specimens while holding a position. I don't find the assault rifles weak at all though. Bullpup is a veritable headshot machine (anyone who says otherwise has no idea what they're talking about), AK is great at medium-range burst fire, and the SCAR is lovely at pretty much any range. I LOVE the hell out of Commando and I'd be happy to help you out in game. I love new players who ask questions. <3
