I'm having trouble getting multiplayer to even work. When I join a server, I click "ready" and it quickly goes into spectator mode where I'm ghosting around the server, which at first I thought was normal given that the wave hasn't ended yet. So when the wave ends, I would assume that I would respawn, but no, I'm still stuck in this ghost/spectate mode even though the scoreboard says I'm healthy and not dead. This happens on every server I get on and haven't even been able to play multiplayer once yet. The solo does work, however. Help?

If you get into the ingame menu ([ESC]), is there a 'JOIN GAME'-option ?
No.

At other times, I'm just stuck at the LOADING screen forever (10-15min. in hopes that maybe it's downloading something like CS or TF2 but I can't tell since there's no progress bar). I have all the ports forwarded if that makes a difference and it's added to the firewall I use. What else can I do other than this game is buggy as heck.

Seriously, can I get some support. Being a paying customer I think I'm entitled to getting a product that works. If it doesn't, I much rather get my money back or post Tripwire's support incompetence on every forum that I get on and spread the word on how bad and buggy a simple game ripped off from Left 4 Dead is.

I have exactly the same problem if I join from within killing floor. To get around it I join games from the steam server browser which seems to work. Its not ideal as you cant see the level on every server unless its in the name but its ok as a workaround.

Dont know what actually causes the issue but you may get a better response from people without making idle threats about slurring them. I doubt your post motivated them to reply with any help.

I guess this can be a server-side issue plus some bugs because it happens on many particular servers in my case, even if they are low-ping. But I can play normally on a few number of servers.
Multiplayer still has many connection bugs (e.g. lagging on low-ping servers, jumping to the main menu without any message, weapons hitting nothing with the ammo counter being unchanged/ can't reload and switch weapons etc.) and I hope TWI can fix them someday too.

There are a few things you can do to help pinpoint the problem. Press F6 in game to see the network stats and make sure you aren't getting packetloss or unordered packets. Post your killingfloor.log file after the issue occurs.

As for fixes, try verifying the game cache / changing steam download server location and doing the same. Try deleting the killingfloor.ini file. Try joining a game from the Steam server browser and see if that makes any difference, as grekko has done.

nos302, it sounds something is interfering with your connection to the servers, I've never seen any lagging like that on any low-ping or non-overloaded servers - keep tabs on your connection with F6 and see if anything strange happens before you disconnect.

I have been having this problem too! I am running Windows 7 and have a cable modem connection. I do not have connection issues with L4D2, only this game. I've managed to play only 2-3 games out of dozens of tries. I'd like this to work, as it is a nice change of style in game-play from L4D :(

I either hang on "Connecting (Press F10 to Cancel)" or when I do manage to join, I am stuck as a permanent spectator. Sometimes when I am stuck as a spectator I can see the players and zombies, other times I cannot see them but I can hear them. When I try to chat in game, my messages never show up.

I checked my connection using F6 on one server I was stuck ghosting:
Ping: 116
Packet Loss: 0

Some help please? Is this a Windows 7 issue? And how do you use the Steam Server Browser?

I am having the exact same problem!

Whenever I try to join a game, I either hang on "Connecting (Press F10 to Cancel)", or if I do manage to join, I am stuck as a spectator ghosting around the map.

When stuck as a spectator I can sometimes see the other players and zombies. Most of the time I can't see any players/zombies, but I can hear the players and zombies. When I try to chat to the other players, my messages do not appear.

I checked my connection using F6 on one server I was ghosting on:
Ping: 116
Packet Loss: 0

I have managed to only join and play 2-3 games successfully out of at least 50 tries.

I am running Windows 7 and have a cable connection to the internet. I do not have lag/connection issues in other games.

Some help please, as this is really frustrating. :(

Still no response?

I've tried opening and forwarding all necessary ports on my router and setting ServerBehindNAT=False to True. The problem still persist.

I found another player on the steam forums who is also having this problem. He made a youtube video showing what is going on. This is what happens when I join a game.

YouTube - KillingFloor 2011-01-15 15-46-01-97_1.mp4

He mentioned the game stopped working after the update that removed the Christmas zombies. Come to think of it, the only few games I ever actually managed to play were the Christmas skinned zombies. Didi the update break this game?

Things I have tried that have NOT worked:
- Forward all ports.
- Turned off router firewall.
- Changed "ServerBehindNAT=False" to "ServerBehindNAT=True"
- Typed "reconnect" in the console twice to rejoin games.
- Waited 60 seconds after refreshing server list to join.
- Added servers to favorites and tried to join from there.
- Tried joining games through Stream's servers.
- Deleted KF's Systems folder and had Steam rebuild the folder.
- Tried running in XP compatibility mode (worth a shot).

*Setup Info
Windows 7 Home 64-bit
Asus A42J laptop with core i5-460m
Zyxel NBG-419N Router
Cisco Cable Modem

Anyone care to help? :(

Already wrote this up once, don't know why it didn't post. Sorry if it double posts.

I found another player on the steam forums that has the same problem as I do. He made a video and uploaded it to youtube.

Apparently he hasn't been able to join a game since the update that removed the Christmas skinned zombies. The only games I ever managed to play were with the Christmas skinned zombies, so I assume whatever broke his game also broke mine.

Things I have tried that have NOT worked:
- Forwarded all ports.
- Turned off router firewall.
- Set "ServerBehindNAT=False" to "ServerBehindNAT=True"
- Tried typing "reconnect" twice in the console.
- Waited 60 seconds after refresh before trying to join a game.
- Tried adding servers to Favorites and connecting.
- Tried connecting through Steam's server browser.
- Deleted KF's System folder and had Steam rebuild it.
- Even tried running KF in XP compatible mode.

*Setup Info
Windows 7 Home 64-bit
Asus A42J Laptop with Core i5-460m
Zyxel NBG-419N Router
Cisco 2100 Cable Modem

Any ideas or help? Did the update break the game for certain users? I'd like my game to work!
