Crawlers, themselves, are one of the biggest sons of *****es in the game. They are mostly the reason people die unexpectedly, or when trying to run away, that last leap will get you good.
But to me, there's something about them that seems a little off. To me, the sneakiness factor of a spider is it's ability to crawl anywhere possible.
Giving the crawler the ability to crawl on ceilings and walls, much like AvP alien NPCs, would greatly increase their effectiveness, as well as their surprise.
If you add on top of that an ability to drop right behind a player, you will have one of the cruelest, yet lowest class enemy.
You will have an enemy who will now need to be looked for in all directions, and made sure they never crawl above you, lest you get dropped on.
This way, we get a sort of high flying creature, who also can circle and block paths easily with the added versatility of having ground for itself in any flat plane.
This way, we don't need an entirely new enemy to fill any roles currently.
Although I swear, if we had flying bat children, WOULDN'T THAT RULE?
