I would like to recommend you new production of History channel about participation of Poles in second world war. I’ve seen the first episode I am really impressed about details and overall quality. It is dedicated to the very interesting person of Witold Pilecki.

Witold_Pilecki_2.jpg

Rotmistrz Witold Pilecki (rotmistrz is a military rank - commander of cavalry company, equal to the captain) was born in 1901. He fought in Polish-Soviet war in 1920 and Polish Defensive War in 1939 and was a brave soldier. Many of Polish soldiers escaped after defeat to the France but he decided to stay in homeland and create own resistance unit, later he joined to Polish Home Army. In 1940 Third Reich built huge concentration camp in Auschwitz. Pilecki as a volunteer became a prisoner of this camp and he created there resistance (mostly food stealing for other prisoners). He also made there a lot of specials reports about extermination of millions people in the camp – these notes were send to the western Allies as the first source of information about Holocaust, but they were just ignored as unreliable. Pilecki escaped form Auschwitz in 1943, in 1944 he fought in Warsaw Uprising. Rest of the war he spend in Italy as a prisoner of war. In 1945 he returned to Poland and started work against communist government. Communists knew that all Polish patriots that fought against Hitler will also fight to liberate country from Soviet hands. Pilecki was arrested in 1947, convicted in falsified trial and murdered. As many of communists victims was buried in unknown place. In 1990 he was approved as a innocent.

Do you have any proof that the trial was falsified or are you going to use american history channel as your evidence?

It's really unfair to have an attitude like that when you demand so much from others in order to satisfy you. Please be respectful - if you are not willing to at least give sufficient details or at the very least respectfully decline to look at materials, then be polite and excuse yourself from the discussion.

It's really not fair how you're treating people in these discussions. I understand they are emotional topics and cause tempers to flare, but we can all be responsible here.

By the way, I don't hate Russians. I never want to leave this part of the world and I really enjoy living between Ukraine/Russia much more than living in the USA. So, please, let's relax and just discuss?

I'm sure 3 generations of Germans would say the same thing... it's a very sensitive issue.

Again I'm not Anti-Russian. My time in Russia and my time now in Ukraine (even with all these things happening here) has been great. Some of the kindest people I've ever met and got the pleasure to know are from Russia/Ukraine.

We can have a handshake even if we disagree.
