Searched the forum and the compiled suggestions thread. Surprised this was never mentioned anywhere. (This can be merged with a weapon addition thread if such a thread exists)

DPM anyone? (Pics in the link)

"Based on experience gained during the first part of WW2, DP was modernized to the DPM configuration. The key improvement was that recoil spring was relocated to the rear part of the bolt, and a receiver extension was added behind the receiver to contain the spring. This mandated a redesigned stock with pistol grip instead of previous semi-pistol stock. Some other improvements were also made, most notably the more sturdy bipods and a manual safety, and DPM was carried by the Soviet troops through the rest of the WW2."

But three reasons that would hold it back from being added are:
1) Was it widely available? (There is no mention of numbers produced/used in WW2 in the full article that I linked, nor in the History and Tactics guide)

2) Does its improvements actually effect game play (are its benefits only minor, like how the PPSh-41 is to the PPD-40)?

3) It would only be available in 44-45 year maps.

I suggest this because the Germans get two of almost every weapon type in RO (2 SMG's, 2 MG's, 2 Semi-auto rifles, and 2 Pistols). Though the differences range from large to small, hopefully the DPM would have enough differences/advantages from the DP to have a purpose (in the part I quoted it does say the recoil spring was "improved", does that mean less recoil?).

I don't think TW would take the time to basically add a pistol grip. The DP28 is already a full auto sniper. I don't know if they had any Browning .30 cal. MG's, if they did I think that would be a better choice for a second Soviet MG.

...DP28... It was rugged and reliable weapon, but not withouth certain flaws, so, based on experience gained from battles of WW2, it was slightly modernised in 1943-44 to became DPM. or DP Modernised. One of proposed modifications was replacement of the heavy and uncomfortable flat pan magazine by the belt feed, but due to some resons, this particular improvement was released only in 1946

Well the article I picked didn't list or fully explain every improvement. I am hoping for some posts by people with more intimate knowledge or actual experience with this weapon so as to give more detail than the article, so everyone can have a higher bottom line to base their responses off of. I myself know nothing more about this weapon than what is in that article. For all I know there could have thousands of DPM's made and it may have very quickly replaced the DP. Not saying you are wrong, just saying neither of us have enough information.

Guess you could also have the Russians spawn with a mg-34, considering that they probably took them with them from a previous battle the day before or sometime in the past.

There is, its called the RP-46. Unfortunately the box magazine that houses the belt can not be attached to the weapon. What idiot though that up? Also, it wasn't introduced until 1946.

i mean of course a version that was used in the time line we play the game ...

poor russians ... they have machinepistols with more bullets inside then the DP ... obviously who was more important in the war, or not ? :D
