-4 pt:teamkilling
1pt: killing an enemy rifleman/smg
2pt:killing an enemy SL, MG, or sniper, commander
2pt resupplying MG
2pt healing
1pt for killing a unit in the cap zone

8pt for capping.

Would work well, I know resupplying MG is important but getting 5 points for it just means people just run over and do it for points and not to help their team.

Capping at 8 is better, getting 8 points with kills is still very hard with an extra point if you kill one in the cap zone.

i hope they change the capture system completely (to a more living capture system rather than 1 big blob where you must put more people in, rather actually trying to conquer land so you obtain places that either have a political benefit (like changed spawnlocation, additional reinf for teams) or geographical benefit for the battle, and with that automatically a different scoring system. With some keypoints that must be achieved, to create some more freedom in how games can be fought.

Personally i would like to see in the scoring not some kind of a ranking based on a point system, but rather show how player plays and in what niche he excells at. Because some classes are supposed to stay back more or some are supposed to attack more, inevitably causing a certain playstyle or class to have a bigger chance to show up on top. I would rather have a system where you truly judge every player individually on their class.
I would love to see the time played back in the scoreboard, so someone who has been playing 4 rounds of said map can be viewed differently from someone who jumped in the last 15 minutes and actually truly helped the team achieve victory.

Who cares about their motivation so long as the MG gets resupped?

Although when people leave a cap zone to the other side of the map just to resupply the MG, that's stupid and bad and obviously just for points.

And what 90% of the public players seem to do. Standing infront of my sight of fire just to resupply me. Walking across an open plane with enemies covering it just to resupply me. Especially when generally im resupplied to the brim.

If you get points for giving ammo to an mg it should only happen in my opinion after an mg uses the i need ammo command.

Maybe even only allow resupply at all after the MG uses the "i need ammo" command. Although then you might get a n00b that uses up all the ammo, rages "I NEED AMMO DAMNIT" over chat, and won't listen to his team telling him to press v>1>3.

They should probably just remove points for it altogether.

They should probably just remove scoring altogether....make it more focussed on teamwork. In real life soliders weren't awarded points, they just had a job which they had to do well or die.

Yes, I was going to post exactly the same thing as you, Penguin, except I'll put it in big scary letters.

THERE SHOULD BE NO POINTS SYSTEM WHAT SO EVER.

It completely ruins games. All of the focus should be on your teams victory. ALL OF IT. No personal goals, except for YOUR team winning. It would scare away some people, but only the people we don't want playing. Unfortunately though, TW probably has an eye out for profit. But come on, that kind of person is already scared off by the lack of cross hairs and manual-bolting, so why not go all the way?

There shouldn't be a stats system either (as it creates the exact same mindset as a points system), except for amount of games won and lost.

i totally agree with Rik...
I have played IL-2 Online for a while now and scoring and stats ruin the game... u can't wound an airplane (smoke him or something) and let him go b/c u know he is headed home... u have to blow him to little bits so nobody else steals the kill... i have seen guys go after planes that have lost a wing just to put some hits on him to get the credit for the kill.... we call these people "stat whores" ... I sure don't want to see them in RO

In WWIIOL Air & Armor guys were really in to their stats. A lot of guys would Alt+F4 out of the game rather than risk having a death on their records.

I don't like the idea of a points system to encourage teamworkish things because it's not actually teamwork. The definition of teamwork is to do things for the team, not to do things for yourself that happen to help the team. And the results are NOT the same. The person who's there for points will not communicate or do anything that doesn't give points.

ok, good luck marketing that in a game

points are needed to keep people hooked to play. the current points system just needs to be modified to make it better. modified, not removed.

As I said, they will probably not go for this idea. But does that change what they should do? At least make it a server-side option. Have "points" servers and "teamwork" servers (not "ranked" and "unranked", because that makes "unranked" servers come off as unimportant...there's a lot in a name)

And as for the idea of points being needed to keep people hooked...that only works until people realize that the points, or more precisely, the game, doesn't matter. If the game is full of point-grubbers, gameplay suffers and makes players wonder why they should bother getting points in such a boring game (not that RO is boring, but it could be made boring by the never-ending point hamster wheel). I would find an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation to be much more consuming. This is why I still play Ostfront, as the people that are still playing have mostly stopped caring about where their name appears on the score board.

If they absolutely have to have point tracking, then points should only be awarded upon a victory (you rackup points throughout the match, but they don't count in the end if you lose), so the player has an idea of the larger goal.

i like a point system to stay although, but i want server options myself.

Like the ability to only show scores only at the end of the round, showing more individual statistics. And ability to turn off deathmessages, but without the ability to just check your score going +1

Only showing scores at the round's end is possibly the best idea that's been suggested in this thread.

current RO you can already disable the scoreboard, at least points i believe (can't remember if it was server admin or a mutator though). some servers used it a while back, but it's been a long long time. disabling til the end of the round would be a good option to give server admins, in addition to the ability to completely turn off the scoreboard like you can now.......just revise the scoring sytem and have scoreboard set "on" as default giving the other 2 options to amins to use at their discression.

points are an integral part of the game, I understand your motivation for not having a points system but in the real world, people want to see results for their good play and that includes capping and killing.

When I say 1 point for killing a enemy in the cap zone, that is in addition to the 1 or 2 points based on the class.

Ultimately, this scoring system would show up the player who was most beneficial to the team and essentially, this would result in players wanting to help their team more.
