Hey guys,
Cool forum, and great community you have here. Pre-ordered RO2, and have been playing Ostfront for a few days now, and I love it. I played RO a few times back when it was a stand-alone MOD, and a free download, and it's amazing to see such a game come to fruition.
After searching the forums, and reading up on some of the grenade conversations, I'd like to offer an idea.
I see some people are for returning thrown grenades back to their sender, or even just throwing them away to void getting killed. While I think this is not only a great feature to have, and contribute to the realism of this game; I can see how people would be frustrated with the mechanic.
Maybe it's a matter of clicking your use key on the thrown grenade would activate the pick-up and immediate throw of the grenade. The character would pick up the live nade, and throw it in the direction your cursor happens to be at upon release. Instead of having to actually click any sort of fire button or first hitting "Use" then "fire" to throw the grenade. One simple "use" command would pick up, and immediately throw the grenade out of harms way, or back to the enemy. Those that don't like this feature, can simply ignore it, while others who would appreciate it could use it to save themselves, or their team mates.
Which brings me to my next point. Diving on live grenades! Being Russian myself, I've always loved the war stories from my relatives and grand-dads, both of whom served in the Great Patriotic War. It was a fairly common occurrence, where soldiers would jump on live grenades to sacrifice their bodies to save their squad makes sitting only meters away. I think this would be an awesome feature to have. If you go prone on a live grenade, your character would get insta-gibbed, but the blast and damage radius of said grenade would be only a percentage of it's base value.
This would help preserve attacking squads, and would instil a bit of battlefield comradery between your trench-mates.
I apologize if both of these topics have been discussed to death already, but again, I'm new, and I only searched through a couple of pages of threads before suggesting this.
TLDR: Suggestion for live grenade throw-back mechanic, and diving on live grenades to reduce damage to near-by team mates.
