Somebody is a little miffed that the forums didn't treat him to well. :)

Perhaps he is sour, but that does not detract from some of the things he's said. For example, I (and surely many others) would like to see non-shakycam gameplay footage for once - We're what, a month away from release? I also agree on pretty much everything he's said about unlocks and think they're a big mistake, but that's a dead horse to beat by now.

more like somebody blogs a relatively accurate assessment of the growing concern felt by a significant portion of the community in regards to RO2......the guy might not have always said the nicest things here, but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve some respect for the many comments he makes where he is absolutely spot on.

also, somebody linked this to me.......my response: :D:( :IS2:

In his opinion MW3 is more worthy of a buy than RO2 and that I really don't understand.

he's the village idiot around here.

Actually, he could've gotten one but declined.

Thing is, no matter if you consider his views on other games as "correct" or "viable" or not, it still doesn't change the fact that he raised a lot of valid points.

yes, yes. we get it. he has an opinion. so do we all. fortunately, no one cares.

btw i made that argument about the futility of trying to overlap the mainstream market basically months ago.

It should have. It would have been a better game

It isn't cute nor is it fun for anyone outside these forums to come here and post.
You guys always have to be the smartest ones in the room and that's what will prevent some sales that could have been made.
Picking apart posts is what you have lived on for too long.
STFW if the game isn't EVERTHING you wanted it to be.
Spoiled brats.

I've even seen disapproval of the progression system on 4chan /v/, I kid you not. And they're not even trolling this time. After playing RO for years, I, a guy who is sometimes referred to as a "bloody hippy" in real life, registered here to voice my concern about this. I certainly am not a realism junky, I've been playing RO because it's a fun game for all this time.
Plug your ears all you want, these standard issue unclocks and skill points are bad news. I think what we really need now is a response from Tripwire about this.

So what you're saying is, he could have gotten a beta key so that he could actually play the game, and help voice his confirmed concerns?

And instead, he declined a beta key and sits on the sidelines and complains about things based on interviews and shaky cam footage, not by actually playing it?

Just some random blog, but he has a lot of good points.

Stopped reading at the "COD landgrab" bit.

I'm sorry, unlockables are not COD features, sure COD has them, but unlocking weapons, items, and skills has been the cornerstone foundation for all video games since the dawn of the Nintendo Entertainment System.

All I see is TWI is taking RO series from humble beginnings to incorporate game concepts we've all loved and enjoyed since our childhoods. I think the bayonet is a little silly of a unlock, but I will enjoy unlocking weapons, its a sense of progression and achievement that have made games like TF2 extremely popular.

EDIT: I'd also like to add that from watching the video, I got the impression he was talking about unlocking the bayonet for the K89 sniper, not the basic rifle.

Not defending the blog....

but on this point: do you know of a single competitive multiplayer FPS that had non-cosmetic unlocks before the year 2007?

Duke Nukem 3D, Quake III, UT2k4, Halo...

Cleary this man is not of the sound mind if he declined such a thing.

Battlefield 2 for one. (I'd point out you could disable unlocking on that game too)
I'm not a big FPS veteran sadly, I only got access to highspeed internet around mid 200x, before that I was playing RTS and MMO games on dial up, so I'm more familiar with concepts from those sorts of games (Unlocking is pretty big in MMOs) You won't find me against it.
