Okay guys, not busy at work so I translated the article. This is not a word to word translation. I took some creativity when translating sentence by sentence. German can be very wordy sometimes and as we are, our language as well is very precise sometimes which makes it almost impossible to translate 100% correctly. So please don't kill me for going the easier way once in a while. All translation is done to keep the sense/meaning of the words.
Here we go:
In Stalingrad the clothes are getting dirty
Regarding games that are really getting us excited “Red Orchestra 2” is standing pretty much on top of the list. It already starts with the name which is chosen bravely as much as questionable. On the one hand, the (politically) neutral player wishes that the Germans are not always taking the role of the storm troopers role as in “Star wars”. On the other hand, words like “heroism” are difficult to accept when it comes to the German occupying campaigns (of ww2). And at last, the word “Stalingrad” is commonly associated with dirty dying in ice and snow.
Nomination for an Oscar
In this paragraph we have made more scenery and ethical thoughts than the game developers. For these, Stalingrad is a map and somebody is a hero who helps his team for achieving victory throughout good teamplay. This at least is the impression which the former mod-developer Tripwire Interactive is giving when presenting the game. If you ask them if the dying and the pain is playing a role (in the game), they will answer that the soldiers are getting dirty and frozen after time the higher the player’s status is brought. When being asked how they will handle this in the singleplayer campaign when playing the Wehrmacht side, they are looking like sheep and promise to present both sides (RUS & GER) in a respectful manner. You can assume that Steven Spielberg is not planning a “day one buy” of Red Orchestra 2.
The developers are paying high attention to a realistic gameplay feeling. A good example is the use of tanks.
Players that are expecting Red Orchestra 2 to break with a “Popcorn war” shown in big US-productions are going into the bunker to cry. (-
