I have reason to believe America's Army 2.7.0 (Overmatch) has been released. The website isn't working correctly, it only loads up like halfway and none of the links work, but the file is on www.fileplanet.com. I'm downloading it right now, but I'm waiting for www.americasarmy.com to work again so I can get official confirmation.

The 2.7.0 release of America's Army has very advanced vehicle combat, new maps, and sophisticated bots, so RO might have to take a break for a day or two ;)

EDIT: The site works now, go to http://www.americasarmy.com/intel/fullstory.php?i=1618 for more info. The file is a massive 2.5 gig download just so you guys know.

Site worked for me. It does appear to be all official n' such. I've never played it before, guess I'll give it a shot. What better time to hop on than a new version? :)

Its a pretty good game with the same engine as RO, and its also free. It tries to go for realism, but is still too similar to CS in my opinion. If they would remove the crosshairs :)mad: GRR) and add respawns, it would be very much like a modern RO.

Meh, i think the only new features are the bugs. Well of course weve got the CROWS now, and the Javelin, oh and dont forget the HUMVEE but... the game itself seems to have stoped in the 2.1-3 era. It ****s to have to wait 6months for a new release and you get only 3 maps. Btw the co-op missions are for 9 players only. The new AI hmmm.... i think the code rosponsible for running away is really well written.

No thanks ill stay with RO (well at least till ArmA :p )

P.S. You could call me a AA veteran - been around since the 1.6 ver or so. Ive enjoyed this game A LOT till the SF soldiers came with their silent silencers, little small maps (note to self "in the 5th second of the match throw nade there"), the always on target ACOG 4x and ofcourse the never used red-dot-forgot-the-name aiming thingy.

I'm sick of all this propaganda ****, no blood, US soldiers always have this macho-type voice, and the insurgents always sound like pirates of the carribbean.

I just got it working today, and my only complaint is the small amount of new maps. If your going to spend so much time on all this fancy AI and vehicle implementation, you would think they'd put it in as many maps as possible. I think they wasted money on that "Real Heroes" or w/e thing too, its pure propaganda that people only watch because it gives them an EXP bonus.

But for the positive things, I like the AI a lot. You gotta play with em for about 2 or so hours before you realize whats goin through their artificial minds, but its pretty cool. On the Interdiction map, I was crawling through air ducts and dropped into a computer room... there was an AI soldier in there, and I scared the pee outta him. He let out a yell and ran, and didn't come back for about 15 seconds. I've had soldiers flank me on both sides, and laugh as they suppressed me with automatic fire. The enemy snipers aren't bad either. Enemy vehicle AI is alright, but I haven't really witnessed much for tactics on their part. Also, enemy AI locations and objective locations are random for every round, which makes it equally challenging each time you play.

All in all, since its a free game, I'd say this is definately worth the download.

Everytime I try to play AA (once in a blue moon), it frustrates the **** out of me. It happens way too often that I get the drop on someone, pump a couple of bullets in him, but then he turns around and bunnyhops and then kill me with one bullet. And AA calls itself realistic? I'm sorry, but I won't play the game as long as that is still in.

I want to like it, but the developers messed up on too many fronts, preventing me from downloading this one. The lack of good and unpredictable maps doesn't help either.

AAO ****s big time, not because it's a bad game but the community is full of spoiled little brats who cannot effort any real games.
I get accused of camping when I'm a sniper, they waste the ammo (humvee) before we are even near the enemie.

Most of the players are just plain dumb and shouldn't play a semi realistic shooter.

Oh wow... the rifle test is easy as hell now. I got 40 out of 40 targets on the first try, where in previous versions I never got over 35 (probably shouldn't have been using that crappy MS mouse for games as long as I did), which meant no sniper training till now . I tried the javelin training, though pointless for me (no SF training*) it was pretty well done. Haven't had a chance to play online yet, though the new server browser is slightly better, but I have to click a crap load of times on the filter to change options (seems to be very finicky about where you click).

This patch wouldn't have taken so long had it not been for all the new uniforms (makes sense since the real army changed its uniform a few years ago), remaking of the training maps (again to keep up with RL), and all the other extra crap that is not needed in any way shape or form (read: propraganda that didn't need to be in the game, a link in a menu that brings up your browser would have sufficed). The only thing that might keep me playing this version more than a couple of weeks (about how long I usually stop playing till the next patch because of reasons to numerous to list) is the "Expore the Army" feature where you can do any mission since there is no Honor points or levels gained.

* I refuse to do SF training, it is in no way like it is IRL (obviously they can't model the real thing, but anything would be better than what they have now). Even when I did try it, I lost for the dumbest reason (i.e. getting spotted THROUGH rocks, hills planets, etc.) leading me to give up on the totally broken "training" mission. I didn't see in the changelog that they updated it along with the other training missions, if they did please post because while I utterly despise the SF training mission I would like to play the SF exclusive maps and not be forced to play IF on non-exlcusive.

The SF training mission was hard but doable if you try really really hard, but you could also just follow a SF guy around and grab his weapon when he dies. But that's very risky - if you really want to SF weapon it's best to finish that mission. It's a real trian & error thing.

The training for AA was kinda good and kinda bad in some parts. The basics, like hitting a target a few times with the rifle, the obstacle course, driving a hummer, etc. aren't that hard but are necessary to make sure everybody gets a feel for what they have to do in the game.

The other training missions, however, are pointless. The SF training for example, was hard as **** and a waste of my life. After 20 tries and still getting spotted by eagle-eyed ruskies, I just had a friend of mine beat it for me. The sniper training wasn't all too necessary either, you just have to shoot an unexploded mortar in the ground and you pass (something I doubt that is military regulation). Also, the medic training was horrible, you just had to watch a slideshow of nasty pictures and answer questions on stuff that you'll never use in the game (to med somebody, you hit F). The "extra" training in AA really ****s, but you have to go through it to do some basic stuff.

As I said before, its really good for a totally free game. Your "payment" for playing it though, is some useless training.

I couldn't be ****ed to do the SF training AGAIN even though I've completed it in my service jacket previously. I think I might have been on the wrong account, now that I think about it.

The Advanced Infantry training was kind of lame.

I did like the way America's Army played out alot, with the exception of when you die, you could be sitting there a bit till the round ended. Oh there were a few quirks here and there, but not worth mentioning. It was the fact that half the time I was playing, I was just watching other players because I was dead! Yeah, I know that part is realistic, but it did get just a bit boring during the waiting part :D

I will still download the newest version just to have it though...

... just played the new map "steamroller", more like "don't get separated from your team for more than 1 sec or you get sniped from 5 different directions". Oh and if you have bad fortune of having to pick the AR class, here is what you do... hit escape, then disconnect. Having the SAW on that map is about as effective as the pistol, you will die very soon short of a miracle and I do mean a miracle. Unlike IRL the SAW doesn't have a scope, while in this map EVERYBODY has a scope. Lame to the max since there are 3 AR slots and its a new map so the servers running it are always near full, meaning unless you get in early and grab a rifle or sniper slot, just disconnect, you won't have fun.

I think they did a great job on the humvee. There are 1st- and 3rd-person entering animations, there are gears, there are even seatbelts, and the sounds the suspension makes are utterly incredible. It really feels like a real military vehicle. Unfortunately, the new menu ****s and that compass takes up about half of your HUD and tells you everything at a glance. I preferred the old compass at the top of the screen where you didn't have a personal GPS telling you where everything is, you just had to use some common sense and get a general direction.

God damnit, why is su cks censored?!

The player animations for the Hummer are pretty well done. Since they are on the same engine as RO, I think TWI should seriously take a look at the Hummer aspect of AA 2.7. The way that they have players switching seats is exactly how I think it should be done in RO.
