These are some textures I have developed in the course of my map-making. The titles are all links to TGA's - some quite big and in need of shrinking.

Some, especially posters I made earlier (for Makhnovo), are distorted and need to be scaled when applied to a surface. It should be clear which images have alpha channels but, just in case, I have noted which, so remember to tick the 'alpha' box when importing them.

Posters:

5 Year Plan - This shows the evil capiltalist scoffing at the 5 year plan and getting a mass of industry in his face as punishment. (alpha)

5yearplan.jpg

Agriculture This is a school poster from the mid-30's showing various agricultural facts and figures, prolly grossly inflated. (alpha)

agriculture.jpg

Alphabetprimer This is a typical poster found on the walls of all Russian elementary schools throughout the 20th century (alpha)

alphabetprimer.jpg

Antidrink 'Every river starts with a drop' *sigh, how true* - anti-alcohol poster from the 30's. (alpha)

antidrink.jpg

Antisemite As far as I can work out, this 30's poster says that just because they had a revolution doesn't mean that anti-semitism had been stamped out and so people had better stop jew-baiting. (alpha)

antisemite.jpg

Babytute A series of pictures from the Soviet operating manual for babies (alpha)

babytute.jpg

Budyonniy poster extolling the virtues of Stalin's mate, the cavalry enthusiast and mustachioed buffoon, Semyon Budyonniy - "Forward, Budyonnists!" (alpha)

budyonniy.jpg

Capital "Capital facing (against) the USSR!" from the late 30's just dbefore Hitler and Stalin got all buddy-buddy. (alpha)

dont_give_your_baby_booze Well, you'd have thought it was obvious but, apparently not... the Sovs still saw a need to post this in health centres and so on in the pre-war days (alpha)

dont_give_your_baby_booze.jpg

Exploiters'Comrade Lenin cleans the world of dirt' - late 20's poster (alpha)

exploiters.jpg

Fieldwork Big old file this, from the late 30's. "Work in the fields does not wait" Nor, apparently, do creepy little girls in headscarves (alpha)

fieldwork.jpg

Handwritingprimer This is another standard feature of Russian classrooms - an orthography poster (alpha)

handwritingprimer.jpg

Kickkulaksout Kulaks made a handy scapegoat for the blunders of enforced collectivisation of farms under Stalin. (alpha)

kickkulaksout.jpg

Kolkhoznik As well as working on collective farms, these guys had time to go on guard duty, grow beards, look gruff and pose for Sovprop painters... Molodtsiy!(alpha)

kolkhoznik.jpg

Komsomol Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Committee for Socialist Youth. (alpha)

komsomol.jpg

Kulaksout Another poster attacking the landowning peasants. This one, as usual, decries them as fat, greedy and, here, seemingly possessing rather poor taste in shirts. (alpha)

kulaksout.jpg

No_beating_for_kids This one may actually be postwar. The message is pretty clear anyways. (alpha)

no_beating_for_kids.jpg

Partylenin Fairly routine poster stressing the basic indivisibility of Vlad Ilyich and the party. (alpha)

Sniper This will doubtless be the most popular poster and will prolly appear on maps where it is the only thing even remotely related to the actuality of battles on the Eastern front 41-45. "The sniper shoots from afar but always on target." (alpha)

SNIPER.jpg

Teething Another health centre-style poster. Possibly designed to scare people out of having kids. (alpha)

teething.jpg

Tomatoes A school poster about tomato-growing. Who says it was all dull and grim in the Soviet union then? :D (alpha)

tomatoes.jpg

Toys Poster telling people not to give their kids toys with sharp bits, fur or any possible fun value at all. (alpha)

toys.jpg

Womenlit Poster from the 20's promoting literacy amongst women (alpha)

Wow Nestor, these are great! If I ever want to make a Russian clinic area in a map, I'll be using these for sure!

LOL - they were actually designed for the Sel'Sovyet (village council/meeting hall) of a small village and the school nearby.

Just because there was a war on did not mean that all posters in Russia were about driving back the fascist beast etc etc.

Incidentally, some of the war posters in use, even in TW maps, are totally inappropriate. For example:

Recruiting posters in bunkers - well, duh! you already got them guys, why are you trying to recruit them?

'Defend Moscow' Posters in Stalingrad - Well, we have our hands full down here in Stalingrad right now, maybe after we've sorted this out. Oh? The danger passed? 6 months ago? Thanks for the heads up guys.

In fact, just randomly putting war posters all over everything is, in my opinion, about as realistic as having crashed JU-52's all over the place.
