I am a Huge fan of the Mount and Musket mod for Mount and Blade warband, and a huge fan of the napoleonic times in general

With the advent of new an awsome games i've been sad to see that no one has ever even botherd to consider a Napoleonic theamed Realism FPS.

I believe that this is where Modders come into play, i believe this is a Great idea, and that if done correctly will prove inovative and extreamly fun.

I know not a lot of people are a fan of what they believe is "slow" combat as far as Muskets are concerned but i think that a lot of people don't realize that a normal musket troop chould fire 3-4 rounds a minute. and that in reality the combat is more about Melee then anything else.

anyways... just my idea i'd really like to see someone pick it up and run with it.

I wouldn't be good I think. Infantry movement was very stiff back then (marching in formations).

well, being this a game about urban combat, it could be done also for the napoleonic age... Light troops did engage in close combat, even if it only in rare occasions

well i think that with the obvious limit of the number of players in a server it whould have to be more about small time engagements. but even 32 vs 32 battles whould be amazingly cool if done right.

Light infantry did indeed engage in urban, or even forest or even open battle fields back in this time. and Small unit tactics did indeed exsist back then, with individual soldiers useing cover and what not.

Personally i think it'd be a fun and awsome mod, but i feel a lot of other people might not.

whould still be awsome to see a mod team take the idea and run with it.

No thanks.

The RO:II system would not lend itself well to the Napoleonic style of fighting. Much in the same way that Napoleonic warfare doesn't lend itself very well to Mount & Blade. M&M is a terribly **** mod. I would rather see it stay there than infect other games.

Fighting in built up areas did take place in the Napoleonic wars, for example have a look at this painting.

I'm real tempted to try and transfer stuff I'm making elsewhere over to RO2 and try for a musket era skirmish mod, using the British 95th rifles, Prussian Jager and so on against the French light infantry. I thinks its possible.

Do it if you think it would be fun. I managed to get a Brown Bess into Ostfront for a small American Revolution mod, no reason you can't do Napoleonic era.

The idea that the only actions of pre-machine-gun battles were between armies maneuvering by battallion is just ignorant. French-Indian War, Revolution, 1812, Napoleonic Wars, Seminole Wars, Civil War, Western Indian Wars, etcetera all could provide some really unique gaming. There were all kinds of actions that would be suitable to modding from RO.

It could be a really interesting challenge to code a mod so players can operate independently, like in RO now, but if they choose to follow commands of the squad leader, to stay within a few meters of him, to load and fire within a few seconds of each other, they could get a bonus to loading time, to accuracy, etcetera to encourage following the manual of arms. Lots of possibilities.

Good luck!

Well, I'd like to have a try at this, if anyone else would like to help, I'd like to hear from them and work on this as part of a team, all I'm interested in doing is making the models, the period environments/maps would have to be tackled by someone else. So, really this is an open invitation to anyone interested in helping form a mod team, please pm me. Here's a couple more models that I have already made for warband, there's quite a range of them that I'm sure we could get in game quite easily. So, we'd be looking for someone with the necessary skills to help do that for a start.

It's a nice idea, very feable though. You have to make good UI to get everyone in line to make up for the -in the eyes of a 21st century human- deficient muskets.

The bayonet animations are already there. That is one in the pocket xD

Hmmmm, where I come from the men wear trousers, nancies and women wear pants and real soldiers wear kilts. Anyway, I'll wait til the SDK comes out and I'll give this my best crack.

I don't think it would work too well just because of the reload time on the guns, although that by no means makes it impossible for the mod to be fun; it'd just be harder to do. There was certainly plenty of urban fighting in the Napoleonic wars. I bet the fights for the suburbs and the Halle-Gate at Leipzig would be great for something like this.

Maybe you're right, I've just finished these guys for a mod I'm working on for Warband, I don't think RO2 is going to support anything like this, but having said that, I still think this is possible and a Napoleonic skirmish mod with just infantry could well work.
