My main pet hate with RO

There I've said it, players who call themselves...

Any name that starts with "Drunk" or any other word that is supposed to inform us that the player is under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
This is no excuse if you were that inebriated you wouldn't bother to change your name, unless you wanted to cause trouble.

Any name that has "noob" involved and is usually followed by killer, basher, fragger etc. What a great way to get new people to play on a regular basis. NOT.

Now the default online player name is ROPlayer so they can be excused Tk's etc up to a point if they are new to the game.
But these people seem to change their name so they can mess about and cause grief on a server while hiding their normal RO identity.

Well not on our server on my watch!
These type of names cause me to keep a closer eye on them, they are warned verbally then via text then I'm afraid its ban time.
I don't bother to kick them as it just fuels their ego to come back and do it even more. As far as I am concerned there are more than enough mature players out there to keep the server full so I don't mind a permanent ban on the idiots.

Inappropriate or offensively named players and players who advertise url's in their name will be will be asked politely to change name, if no response is forthcoming they too are kicked or banned.

The other little thing that gets on my nerves is players who stand behind tanks etc without getting in, this causes delay when you need to get back into combat ffs either get in or run away.

So if your IQ matches your shoe size carry on, but you won't last five minutes on our server. Remember you have a unique player ID so changing your name won't get you back on.

Honestly... its not a big deal. People can call themselves what ever they want, its up to the server admins to kick them if they are breaking the server rules. None of it bothers me, I just sit and play. Not everyone is perfect

its more the people that are at the totem with a name like IOwnAll and when you shoot them there start going on about how much of a noob you are and how you cheat. but yes you are right people should call them self what there like.

i hate all the new t'king that's going on, kids use stupid names cos they think it's funny. they'll get a better sense of humor later. in the meantime, i'm more concerned with the use of the f word and c word by people who are barely old enuff to go to the shop alone. far more concerning.....

but this stuff never usually happens, so i say to everyone, save all the talk for when the free period is over. there are a lot of people playing atm that don't give a crap about the game and are being attention seeking brats because of it. when we settle back into normal play you'll see that there's a fair bit of respect in this community.......

Oh man do not even get me started on this.

What I find most irritating is the pre-teens on voice Coms that think acting like they are stoned (or mentally challenged) somehow make them sound cool.

I had to lay off of ROOST for the free week for a while this weekend because there were just too many idiots. Mind you that there are always this type of idiots online at any given moment but during free week I had more than I could take. The ever popular "mommy dropped me on my head" slow slurred speech on Voice Coms was just too much for me to take.

I think getting new players through freeweek is a good thing as it adds needed good players. But unfortunately it also attracts the warez doodz mentality so I will be glad when it is over.

I had some guy on my own team try to run me over and even tell me in a slurred ("I have been sniffing glue") voice that he was about to do it. Seems that every single map I joinded yesterday there was some moron at spawn either shooting people as they spawed, shooting at our equipment or setting of sachel charges or even arty at our own spawn.

Even with bans and votekick turned on these same folks would constantly keep coming back to the game. How is that possible?

Names do not really bother me in the slightest. Some of the best players online have the strangest names. And as much as I enjoy humor, it goes out the window when the clowns ruin the gameplay and do not take anything seriously.
Its sad really.

This is why I mostly play on the Orel map because the kiddies do not have to patience to drive from A to B so they do not stick around for very long with their short attention span and lack of patience and appreciation.

If you can get away from spawn quick enough (from the idiots) you can maybe enjoy the game when playing Orel or Black July. It's sad that I feel safer among the enemy than at my own spawn. Wish the developers could find a reasonable fix to keep those folks out of the servers.

Sorry for the rant but I had to get that off my chest.

So far I haven't seen that much idiotery. Bit of TK'ing, cussing, some negative comments, lack of teamwork etc but for the most part the newbies just play along.

I personally never experience bad stuff on the voicecomms. Don't know about the American servers, but the European servers usually use voicecomms pretty well (or it's just plain quiet)

The DBDUK server is one of the best servers for teamwork.

Same here. Have had to ban a couple for blatant TK's (-58 score one case before I checked the server ). Somehow auto-kick got turned off.

Only names I will react to are blatant offensive racist names (ie GI Jew , NiggerPopper etc.). Usually I will ask for a name change then kick if nothing happens.

Other that a few incidents though , for the most part , the new comers are indeed joining in and seem to be giving the game a decent trial.

We encourage new players, constantly offering help and like to keep the server friendly, with more cooperative play etc.

We often play on RGN with Mike Nomad and crew and listening to him rant on when drunk really makes the game come alive. heh heh

You can be drunk and play (I often do) but there is no need for offensive behaviour.

I for one take offensive names seriously because they are usually created by juveniles intent on "shocking" people (hence the request to change it befire being kicked) , as do I not allow derogatory racist comments.

Oddly though , the constant barrage of four letter words doesn't offend me that much because you hear it everywhere you go now , even a stroll through the local mall listening to the younger generation or the halls of your local high school. They are even used often in current music.
They've almost become accetable adjectives these days.

fair play to you mate..i wish more servers could be run in the same manner..this week ive been seriously annoyed by some new people..i even lost my rag and told them to f-off for intentional tking

i have never done that since i bought ro when it was first launched..all i want to do is play ro without any hassle..is it too much to ask

Back in the mod days, when you played RO, your name was "Player" There was also a kid that just never changed his name. Not only a nice guy, but one of the better players of the mod. This is also when there was a core group of 20-30 guys that played the game at all.

I do not ban anyone unless they intentionally do stuff against the game-play, tk over and over etc.

You could be called player and play for hours as long as you play "properly". You could be called "Hitler's left nut" for all I care.
The point I made was the anonymity of the name "Player" allowing them to do as they wish without being named and shamed on the forums afterwards.
