Some of you might remember me from the Linux support thread. Seems that all hope for a Linux version of RO:O is gone, so I decided to try out the Steam version of it.

I bought the game through Steam last night and started downloading. Switched shift with a collegue at work, so I could spend all morning today playing this game everyone is talking about. I woke up full of anticipation at 08:00 this morning and got ready to play this game.

The seconds it took while validating took forever, but finaly the game started to load... and I got the mighty BSOD...

Disclaimer: I am 100% certain that the BSOD is not my fault. DirectX is updated, GPU drivers are updated, Chipset drivers are updated and I can play BF2, UT2K4, Half-Life 2, Day of Defeat: Source, The Movies, Call of Duty 2, Half-Life, Half-Life: Source and DooM 3 on my computer without any problems. The computer I got is a Dell Inspiron with a Geforce Go 6800, 2 GB RAM, 2,13 GHZ Intel Pentium M 770.

ZoneAlarm has known issues with RO. Try uninstalling it completely and deleting the Clientregistry.blob file from your Steam folder. Reset. Reinstall the very latest version of ZA, then open Steam and let it do it's thing. It should now work fine, apparently. Just remember to set all your permissions.

It's an issue with the firewall. Some people get it, noone really knows what's causing it I think. Try updating to the latest ZA, see if that fixes the problem.

It's an issue with Red Orchestra, not with ZoneAlarm. I'll try updating to the latest ZA, but there should be sent out a patch through Steam that fixes this.

It probably can't be fixed by Steam because ZA heuristically detects something in RO...

If they are using Steam to deliver the game, they can send out a patch that fix it through Steam aswell. This is a problem Tripwire is causing and not something that ZA does. I've never had a BSOD on my laptop before I tried RO:O

they allready had problems with zone alarm in the beta, they fixed that but this seems to be a new problem.

you could just try another firewall untill they fixed this, there are plenty available even for free.

ZoneAlarm is not gamer friendly. I've had trouble with it ever since I first used ZA 5 years ago. There has NEVER been a version of it that doesn't cause major headaches with multiplayer games of some sort or another. No, it is NOT a game issue, it IS a ZA issue and always has been. To be blunt, you are 10,000% better off using a hardware firewall than ANY version of ZA.

Just disable it while playing. That's what I did with Norton Internet Security. Works fine now.

Experienced the same issues . However, RO is working well with Zone Alarm. My problem was with the files in the red orchestra/system folder. Deleted those, started up RO, and was finally able to play.
