Leveling and unlocking perks is what is killing PC gaming in general. There was a time when people would play objectives more rather than having more thought on getting kills to unlock this etc.

This then has the knock on effect of people wanting to level up instead of getting involved in scrims, leagues etc.

Just because its the norm doesnt make it right and i blame COD on the consoles. They may have got megabucks from it, but the damage they have done is unforgivable. This is not progress.

The sooner COD is not made for PC the better, and i really hope that Kotec CEO of activision really gets whats coming to him and his pets.

Didnt leveling and unlocking stuff in shooters start at the PC to begin with?

Funny.

Have anyone been thinking how more less innovative RO2 is compared to RO ost? Tripwired basicly added a lot of stuff we see in COD (which is the standard for FPS games) such as perks, unlocks, blabla.

Red Orchestra Ostfront wasn't really innovative since it's just a modified (badly I might add) version of the Mod.

The only things RO:Ost really added to RO was an MG in the turret of most tanks and being able to dive'prone over sandbags.

Besides the modifications to the weapon recoils, sway, movement speed and such (all in a bad way mind you) RO:Ost is just RO:CA, but with more vehicles.

RO2 brought to RO Cover, Blind Fire, Detailed Interiors to the Tanks, Adjustable Sights, climbing over objects, progression in both class & weapons, heroes, vets, weapon attachments/unlocks, better tank physics, recon, better squad management, easier command menu, etc. etc.....

While some of those features already exist in other games, RO2 is the first RO to have these features (and then some)..... so to even try and claim RO1 was somehow more innovative than RO2, when RO1 is just a polished RO:CA with botched game physics...... is again, baseless, biased foolishness.

wolfenstein et had these things ~8 years before ro2

It was also brilliant in that you only had character progression for the duration of a campaign.... So after you complete the North Africa maps or the Europe maps (sometimes a combination) - you started over from square one.

Persistent XP servers popped up a couple years later and RUINED the game! After all, joining a server only to realize that everyone is miles ahead of you in power is a huge turn off for a competitive FPS! Thank god no game has done that ever ag.... oh god... wait...

Wow! MW3 has weapon progression?! SWEET!!!

Now I have a reason to avoid multiplayer in that game like the friggin' plague. I'll be buying that one used when it hits the $15 mark.

First they stole Golden Gun from Golden Eye on the N64. Then they steal Gun Game from Counter Strike and now this. They really can't think of anything original. Hell you would think with all that money they are pulling in that they would make a real in house engine rather than that modded Quake 3 one.

"I can unlock reduced kick. And now when my weapon kicks, it's gonna kick less"

Woah, middleweight-wrestler-turned-game-programmer, slow down plox. You should explain what the 'reduced kick' perk does some more.

EDIT: also, they took theater mode from Halo.

Ahh those bast**ds:mad:, stealing our beloved progression system (/sarcasm) next they'll be after out cover system and team based gameplay as well.

Isn't it wierd how COD takes all the bad stuff that games have and somehow makes it popular? And the "preorder now for XBox 360" thing, well *insert Microsoft hate and rant about their abandonment of PC here*, not that it matters.

Actually COD has a long history of taking features from what were at the time only in hardcore realism games and implementing them into its more arcade style play. For example, when COD implemented iron sights, the only other games to have used them for all weapons were operation flashpoint and world war 2 online. On a few features COD has actually been ahead of the curve (mantling over cover and bullet penetration for example) If the franchise still had the spirit of its earlier incarnations, I wouldn't be surprised to see sequels with something like ros cover system.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of how at this point they have decided to milk the franchise till it's dead by pumping out the same game every year, and totally given up on change. Its continued dominance is pretty much just down to name recognition at this point. But lets complain about it for real reasons and not make believe ones.
