[Mutator] Russian Weapon Translations

It'd be nice if everyone would use a common naming system.

Prefix's
Mut - Mutators
Weap - Weapons
Mob - Zeds/Monsters

Suffix's
_T - textures
_A - animations
_SM - static meshes
_S - sounds

Maybe using the authors tag or initials in the name as well. Like BD, WPC or Whisky

I agree there should be some consistency or at least put version numbers since there are still other mods that have conflicts such as:

KFPortalTurret- 1-2 OTHER versions than the one posted on these forums
Healbot - there are like 2 or 3 different versions of it from the one that was post here before
KFJasonMut - yes... there are at least 1-2 OTHER (older?) versions floating around in use on servers, even though I was playing around with the latest one from WPC website. The Jason_vorhees.u file seems to be the same
WPC Brute -mostly texture or limbs issues - I found the previous skin and use that only clientside

It is a pain in the arse to play around in solo, then can't join a server due to mismatch and have to delete/move files around.

I've started to do the suffix's but I haven't done the author's tag as I haven't figured what would be best for me if that makes sense.

Personally this mutator is going to be a pain for you Gartley so maybe split it up or something. I thought you knew that you had to have all files there for the mutator to run so I kept quiet lol. I mean maybe doing a SMG pack, Sniper pack, etc etc would be better and more sufficient.

I knew I needed the packages to compile it, but when the game loaded it I (for whatever reason) assumed that if my mutator couldn't find a file it would simple overlook that step and move on. I was wrong, so in the mean time I'll look for a better way of doing it.

Do you have all the weapons in the list? Because something I found out the other day is you need all the weapons present for the mut to work. It's something I'm looking into.

Off-Topic: Probably should just rename all of the texture, animations, and etc. with a prefix just to avoid mismatch, eh?

OT: I think there's really only one version of the TurretBot and WTFMut available, which would be through the original creators. As for PPSH, there's two versions because there is a version where the Russian modders were nice enough to fix the icons and etc. for the weapon, and the other version which you can download through the KF forums. As for the Bastard Sword, I would say the best thing is to learn how to decompile, and change the names of the Bastard Sword animation, texture, SM, and sound files to BastardSword_x, instead of Bastard_x, and then change the system codings to use the new file names.

Oh editing it is easy enough, the point is that it was an oversight on both authors to have not been more unique in naming. And the biggest problem is actually people editing files for what ever reason and not renaming them.

Which is why I created this mutator in the first place. I could have translated the files and just recompiled. Boom done. But then risk mismatches. Or like I did originally for a couple of weapons was add the suffix ENG to show I had translated the package to English. But the point of this mutator was so no one had to mess with the original packages if they were unable to view the Cyrillic alphabet.

It seems this hasen't been many translations in a while, why don't you post the source online (github?) so everyone can contribute to it easily and then release it when there hasn't been a few translations/bug fixes. I would gladly add a few translations.

You should check out this weapon and of course translate it ;)

New to these forums (but not to kf) so hope im not breaking any rules in the post :p

thats a great idea......split the mut up by category...............
i added mut and all weps and still nada...............so yeah a spit Mut maybe 5 ways would be awesome?.........as well as less pain:mad:

Thinking about it that would be a good idea, that way people could fork it and then push an update. Once I sort my system out I'll reinitialise my github and create a repository.

if there was a step-by-step tutorial on "how to" change weapon names on muts........i would do it in a heart beat............but it has to be a tutorial for noobs, cus when u say in the tut, "compile this and blah blah blah..........u lost me already...lol

but going in and being shown "how" to change a line in a Mut.............no problemo at all;)

I found it on a second examination, thanks.

It was the Spoiler tags that threw me off. I have an aversion to spoilers, so it just didn't occur to me that the link was in there. Considering the context, it should have been obvious. Out of mind, out of sight, as they don't say.

Also, if someone has got all the weapons together and correctly named, I would urge them to package them into a torrent or filelocker or even Steam Workshop, although I suspect one would want/need to give authorial credit if one were to put an archive there. I followed the links Valken posted and did my own google searches but I haven't come up with a complete set yet, i think. I'm missing the RPG u guys were talking about. I think if everyone was starting from a common package without requiring extensive renaming and decompiling, a n00b tutorial would be quickly forthcoming, and this would gain widespread use. And some of these might even become graylisted if the western playerbase were more aware of them.

Alternatively, Gartley, did you make any progress on getting the mod to successfully step around mismatched/missing items? Or did that turn into a pain?

Just my thoughts.

This is a GREAT mutator. It fixed it for me. Well, I didn't need to use the mutator, I just borrowed some small code for the M249, it's the only russian gun I use atm. Huge thanks, Gartley! Keep up the good work! This is amazing :)
