Mutator: Optional wave challenges ala Gears 3

The Horde 2.0 mode in Gears of War 3 is comparable to KF in that you're fighting waves of enemies and there's a money system. Another cool little thing they introduced are optional, random challenges that pop up sometimes. You have to complete them in that wave. No penalty if you don't, but if you do you get free extra weapons sent to your base and a monetary reward.

Challenges include killing x amount of enemies in a time-window of 30 seconds, killing x amount of enemies with headshots or "executions", etc.

This introduces a bit of variety. You often have to coordinate with your team and you can't just play on with the same defensive structure as usual. It forces you into different play-styles, should you chose the challenge is worth the risk. And lastly, it makes waves that would otherwise be boring interesting.

Of course these challenges don't all fit into KF but I'm sure we can come up with a few KF specific ones that would be fun.

Kill x amount of clots with one explosion.
Kill x amount of Scrakes/Fleshpounds in a 10 second window.
At least one players must not take any damage.
Kill 3 Sirens before killing a single Clot.
At least one member of the team has to kill x specimens without moving.
etc.

The challenges pop up at the beginning of a wave (not every wave) and they're active for one wave. If they're completed there's a cash bonus in it that justifies the risk, if not, nothing happens.

I like the sound of it actually. But I'd like to see goals that are tied to say, objects. Like little objectives. "Carry item X to location Y for a reward" etc etc as well.

memories of bad RPGS hont me

And if their are any "gard Ssusie Q while she has an AI lobotobomy and keeps dieing beyong player contol to make frustrated" I will kill the computer and eat it

I'm not sure how I feel about this. On one hand I think it could be fun, but not only are games long enough, but it's not really something I would want to do mid-game. Sounds like it would somewhat ruin the atmosphere of the game, but I could be wrong.

To be honest, it sounds like something better suited with it's own game mode. Like Guard/Escort or something, where you have to protect survivors from the horde, or maybe even some type of mode where the actual goal of the game would be to fight your way into a heavily infected area, difficulty increasing as you go deeper, and planting some sort of bomb or such, and fighting a boss on the escape. Could maybe call the mode "Nest" or something :p

The main problem with that mode is that I don't see any real ways for a trader to be implemented. Still, kind of a cool idea, if you ask me.

EDIT: I misunderstood what you meant about little challenges. I thought you meant that INBETWEEN waves, there would be like, minigames to play. I now realize that you meant like.. in-wave missions. My bad. Still, the game mode(s) I mentioned sound nice :D

Story mode maps provide that "nest" thing.

The challenges have to be completed by the team, or one member of the team and then everyone gets a share of the bonus. That's how it works in Gears of War 3 anyway, and that's how I meant my suggestion.

E.g. Gears has Flame-Boomers, which are Locust with flame-throwers who can be killed by shooting the tank on their back. One challenge is to kill three flame-boomers in a wave by exploding the tank on their back (as opposed to just shooting them, decapping them, grenading them, etc.). It doesn't who does it as long as three of them are killed this way at the end of the wave.
