is this true and is so could somebody please let me know how ? as me and a friend would like to play a new map i modded but neither of us can afford or want a server :(

cheers, and thanks in advance!

Need a bit more info. Mat, is your friend on the same local network, or does he have to connect over the net
If he's on the same local network then you both need to have the map in the RO maps folder.
Start a lan server with the modded map, and your friend should be able to join it via the lan option in the server browser.

If he has to connect over the internet, then start a listen server, using the same map (which he obviously has to have in the maps folder) and give him your external ip address, which he can type in, and add to the favourites section in the browser, and then connect to.

Remember also that you need to open ports on your firewall and router.

p.s. and edit, instead of openeing the ports (becuae i dont have the slightest idea of which ones to open) could i just deactivate my firewall for the time ? cheers.

I wouldn't worry about the ports too much, they should aleady be opened, since you are a regular player anyway.
I just mentioned them in case your friend has any trouble connecting to your ip address, and its possible that your firewall or an unopened port will block him.
Let him try to connect first before de-activating your firewall, see if he can.

ps: i'll be home from work soon, so if your on my server, make sure you keep that Panther angled.

hehe, thanks about the panther, i normally try to angle it a little over 11 o clock or a little over 1 o clock, normally it works a treat, but it never seems to stand up to the good players like you... :(

cheers mate,

matt
