Well, since they are clearly trying to market the game to the casual people and we here at the forums are not their target audience I'd say they can get away with a lot more than this...

Perhaps someone here should frequent the Steam Forums or other FPS discussion forums and warn them of the impending lies.

What are you talking about? I really doubt they would boast MPC as a new feature even IF it came along with RS. A lot of people knew about it. It was in the "What has been announced so far" threads pre-release and was talked about numerous times. You're honestly speaking out of your *** here.

Yeah the campaign works very well ,and i enjoyed 3 hours earlier playing on quite balanced teams with 64 players(yes even on gumrak).

I can see where twi had problems, with only having testers playing, because for various reasons people leave and rejoin.
With a small group of testers this would have been a problem, but with a 24/7 server with loads of different players coming and going the campaign keeps going even with most of the original players having left the game.

Its more fun playing for 2-3 hours when the maps you play are linked together ,than spending the same time playing those maps and gaining a few points at the end of it.

Don't get me wrong its probably not going to be on more than a couple of servers but its a nice change to the ususal slog.

Problems occur when the teams are fighting over two areas and the same maps may crop up every 5-6 maps, this may be alleviated with the custom maps being put in rotation.
Also we have the same problem that all territory maps have ,and that is the victory conditions are either not clear or like happens most of the time, it messes up.

If nothing else you should try it out if you have a couple of hours spare.

Played this yesterday,very enjoyable.

A couple of points i posted (and have edited from) my clans own forum:

"It sounds very much like the game format for CoD2 that the late (greatly missed) EBA-UK Merlin and I came up with a few years ago. We had a whole load of maps (270) put in different territories (Eastern Front, Southern Front, Western Front and a Final Front made of German Maps) that were fought over by the Axis and Allies with either side pushing against each other to victory. In the same way as the OC mode the area winning side would choose the next set of maps.

Here is the only surviving link i could find to even a mention of that, unfortunately everything was lost with the death of my friend:

Axis Versus Allies Server

All in all i think this is the future of the RO series, it adds another dynamic to the game, and more of an incentive to play for one team or the other. It is also very similar to my old AvA idea, but much better done.
I have no idea why there is only one active server out there and why, so far, TWI have not thrown their weight behind this."

I would play this every night if I can just find the server again. Can someone post the server IP next time their gaming?

Agree. Since RO1 till now, I never had an incentive to stay either Allies or Axis. But with your hard work resulting in the overall outcome of the future maps , makes you want to see it thru.

We should have a Online Campaign Night and really see how this plays out with a full server. But please, please, no 65 man server. 40 max. Theres no tactics in 65 man.

So I jumped into one of the Russian servers running Campaign Mode this morning.

Only played one round, as Axis defending Mamayev, but it was nice to be playing defense as Axis.

Added a few screenshots for inbetween rounds.

I swear, this mode needs to be in game NOW :p

-------------------

As you can see, as Axis we successfully defended Mamayev, then voted to go on the attack. We selected a territory to attack and then voted on the map in that territory. As you can see, StalingradKessel (a custom) is in that territory, however we ended up voting to go on the attack at RedOctoberFactory.

I share the views and thoughts of people that posted here, and quite frankly I'm at loss why the TWI is underestimating this mode so much, dropping it so easely for now(I hope).

I was surprised aswell to see MP campaign getting small number of votes, in that poll some time ago, on what TWI should give its priority to next, but I knew many of the people that voted, weren't there on those summer beta events TWI held I was a part of, to see just how good MP campaign is, or could be.

Glad to see many of you people like it after trying it yourself first hand, as I did. Now, I'm not saying, new maps, vehicles, weapons, etc. aren't important or not wanted as much, but MP campaign should be the way RO2 is played IMO, and thus should be made available and supported by TWI ASAP.

In short, it gives me more thrill and immersion, in a sense of fighting a big war for one side, compared to playing single maps without connection between them, on how well you did on previous one, as you get when you play MP campaign.

Nice little details, like commanders tone at start of map speech, depending on how well the campaign is going for your side, or cool victory/defeat cutscene at the end, just add up to the overall feel of it.

Hopefully, it gets the support by the devs in future, after RS release, and we see much more servers running it.

P.S. Thanks to Russian community server for running it. Much appreciated guys. Spasibo :)

I played for a couple of hours yesterday, a bit when York was on. I have to say, I was expecting a semi broken, odd experience, but no, this breathes so much life into the game, it needs to be run NOW. Maybe I missed something, but it ran fine for me, zero problems, zip.

Here's why it rocks: (For those who haven't played)

Unlike a single round, it matters if you win. Winners get to choose the area of the overall campaign map to fight over, the map to play and if they defend or attack.

There's a larger overall goal and the battle for that goal will swing back and forth over a longer period of time.

You get to play the same (old) maps from different perspectives. Axis defend Station for example, or attacks in Commisars.

You play with the same teammates from map to map to map, instead of the mix of players switching each round. This allows both the time and provides incentive to foster teamwork. You can squad up with the same group of guys, the same squadleaders, the same commander. You begin to learn others playing style, you know where to find them, you have incentive to work together. (see it matters if you win above)

A couple of things would improve it:

Allowing admins to add custom maps. Duh.

Different modes (I like Classic) I don't know if this is already possible or not....

This should be the default game style. Seriously.

That server said it was a Custom game mode and we played DerIvanBerg together, so I`m guessing the Admins have done something to it...

dd to feel this way since I love CD, but I agree.

I didn't say only, just the default. :D

If you wanted to blow a newbies socks off and set RO2/RS farther apart from the rest of the crowd, imagine how well this would develop over time. If it was the default, many, many more players would "get it", how teamwork is essential, people would become more knowledgeable about their roles, how much fun that is. You'd see the best players around you working together and changing the outcome of the campaign. You'd want to be like them, not just the lonewolf killing machine guy at the top of the scoreboard like it is now. OK, maybe not the top guy, but you know what I mean....

Besides, it's just TE variant after all.

That server said it was a Custom game mode and we played DerIvanBerg together, so I`m guessing the Admins have done something to it...

Huh. I didn't notice the Custom label, I just filtered for Campaign Mode to find it. I didn't play that map, but there was customs now that you mentioned it. My mistake.

This has promise.

Just imagine this....

You enter the server and see Axis has but 1 territory left and half the manpower then the Allies. What to do?

Join Axis and try to play hero and turn the tide of war or join Allies to put the finishing blow to what was a loop sided campaign?

Just sounds exciting to me.

Also,

If Campaign was just a server setting, like map voting, you could run any gamemode...... Anyone know how it's set up?
