Nice find mate. Great feature are reinforcements points, how do you spend them and lose after battle.

New question which comes to my mind is: So both teams can attack same sector, does it means e.g. Allies can once start as defenders and once as attackers on same map? If yes it would be great. It reminds me Iron Crescendo campaign, same idea :).

Ramm mentioned it, that you can switch from attacker to defender on a map!

Thanks for clearing it up.

I updated first post with new informations.

I doubt if it will be useful for clans or tournaments, but it looks and sounds great for public games.

Let's analyze that campaign map and try to 'fill in the blanks', shall we?

I'm basing this on that Close Combat map, the info we have and some Googling (so not very accurate). Territory names we see are (clockwise):

  • Metchetka (hard to read, but I think that's what it says) - LINK
  • Trakternyi (tractor factory) - GOOGLE LINK
  • Barrikady - (gun factory? Can also be Barrikady worker's apartments - Danzig) GOOGLE LINK
  • Krasnyi (Red October factory) - GOOGLE LINK
  • North - Judging the Close Combat map it could be Pavlov's House (in the audio interview with Wilsonam he said that they researched Pavlov's). Could be the 'Train Station' map as well.
  • Central - Could be Fallen Fighters or Grain Elevator (both in the same area).
  • South - Kuporosnoyo is, apparently, a suburb. Danzig remake? Could easily be Spartanovka as well though. GOOGLE LINK.
  • West - could be southern train terminal (thus the map 'Train Station') but it could be the Minina suburb as well (Danzig?). Or Spartanovka.
  • Steppe - the big area in the west. Could be the unannounced tank map.
  • Mamayev Kurgan - central territory. I'm almost 100% that it's Mamayev. GOOGLE LINK
Just follow those links behind each territory for more info.

Let the speculation begin! :D:IS2:

EDIT: link to the campaign map. And a link to the Close Combat map.

EDIT 2: modern-day panoramas of some of those territories.

I doubt if it will be useful for clans or tournaments, but it looks and sounds great for public games.

on the contrary, i believe this will go a long way for helping with organized public campaigns like IC and would be huge for the realism community should it be possible to play maps in countdown. plus, if the mode and servers are as customizable as they appear they will be, this has a ton of potential.

nice analysis nimsky. it really looks like there's going to be a great variety of environments to play! :)

I'm looking forward for mod community and what can be done with it. I'm pretty sure we get new campaigns based on modded stuff after release.

IC has different rules which doesn't really fit to RO2 campaign mode, but I'm pretty sure that there something what can be done with it :)

Anyway, I updated 1st post.

This feature should be a big winner - as DOD used to have a thing called BFE which players chose sides and fought a number of maps - all be over a few weeks but that took lots of organising.

This is a simlar option by the looks but open to general public play

And may have possiblities for any RO leagues and clan play

Devs a question can you quit a campain and save it in anyway ? - so from a clan point of view could p[ick up where left off the week before type of thing ?

Difference between BFE/IC and Campaign Mode is the scope of the battle.

With BFE/IC, each day with a dozen matches was one "attack" on the big "Risk Board" of Europe. With Campaign Mode, each match is one attack.

Not exactly the same thing, so you can't easily make it months long campaign like with BFE/IC.

Still pretty awesome though. Hopefully, Admins can make the Campaign Mode last longer by either increasing the Campaign Mode Time Limit, or just starting with more Combat Points (or both).

There was a BFE for RO (the mod) too. Best RO battles ever.

I was a member as well, great times... Had one of my best battles ever in RO there, its really great to have a good tactical professional team against a likewise good tactical professional team!

There is something similar these days, only not that professional, its a RO Steam group called RO Fight Club, they have weekly large scale mixed-clan battles... http://steamcommunity.com/groups/rofightclub

it was more rabid competition than tactical, but still awesome. =)

FH1 and the RO mod used to have BFE tournaments as well.

And Nimsky -- where did you find that picture of the campaign map? I didn't see it any of the released footage ...
