So, it seems that I have recently picked up an MSN virus or spambot or somesuch. It sends random spam messages to my contacts, usually saying something like 'Check out this site www.bigbadvirus.net'. I've scanned my comp with Avast, with the scan sensitivity set to high and found 3-4 rootkits (Trojans) which I've moved into the chest but apparently it's still at it.
Any and all help would be appreciated.

Im guessing youve tried this, but have you uninstalled msn, (also check and delete any folders that it leaves) did the scan then reinstall. If that fails and you cant get rid of it you can try using an old version, like msn messenger instead of windows live. Also just try googling the message it sends and see if you can find any fixes, that method is usually quite effective.

Also, try using some spyware programs such as Spybot and Adaware. Also check to see that your security and privacy settings in Internet Explorer are still set where you want them and they haven't been changed by some program to something ridiculously low. Also look in your Internet Explorer settings and make sure you don't have any unwanted BHOs (Browser Helper Objects) that are messing you up.

Good luck

I use Avast which as far as I'm concerned is the best out there, for free.
That being so, I recommend doing a Kaspesky scan and or try the trial version.
It has helped me more than once.

My brother had the same problem, which was fixed.
The trouble with MSN is that it (the spams and all) always find a way back.

MSN I use only for Video meetings, never and I mean NEVER for mails.
Good luck.
