I haven't fired an MP40, but I have fired a variety of 9mm sub guns. I also used to own a .22 semi auto that was of a very similar configuration to an MP40, with the wire stock, etc.

Shooting it with the stock folded was pretty pointless, really. It was too heavy to hold out like a pistol and have any real accuracy, and the balance sucked hard, too. You could fire it from the hip, using your off-hand on the front of the magazine well, but outside of 3-7 yards or so you weren't going to hit anything.

Having a folding stock is more for storage / transportation than anything else. It's a lot easier to carry around with the stock folded, but you really don't want to shoot that way.

Exactly.

He had told me, and a friend of mine that the stock wasn't up for debate.

And I wonder what the reason for that is?

I'd be interested in hearing that.

Actually, HoS seems like it will be the first game where folding your stock DOES matter. Your weapon can collide with the geometry in HoS - if you are hiding behind a bathtub in some apartment building you may want to keep your stock folded just to reduce the overall length of the weapon and make it easier to maneuver in the very confined spaces.

If you go into iron sight mode, you'll hold the weapon just as far away, stock or not.

So the overall length will be the same.

And if you really want to make the gun more compact from the hip, you can tuck the stock underneath your arm, giving you the same length as with the stock folded. It will be uncomfortable (as is shooting it with the stock folded), but it would probably be a better option than fiddling around with your stock in combat.

Yeah, I would like to hear the reasoning, but honestly, there is a part of me that thinks, or hopes, that maybe it will be an option later on, like maybe a Hero option. Or upgrade or something. Only aesthetic upgrade, not increased accuracy or anything, just an aesthetic operating of the stock would be pretty cool.

Meh. An upgrade option just to fold/unfold a damn stock? Nah. They should just have it unfolded, unless they want to go through the trouble of making the animation to fold/unfold it.

Sure, you could add it, but what's the point? Firing with the stock collapsed is inferior in every single gameplay aspect. The real life pros of a folding stock are next-to impossible to convey in a game. Furthermore, my opinion is that all of the weapons should be less visible in "hipped" mode. Try holding a rifle down at your hip in real life and see how much (or little, rather) of the gun you actually see. In most of the weapons in R.O (or any game, for that matter) you can see a good part of the receiver.

not necessarily. Weapon collision is in RO:HOS. Having a folded stock would offer up some extra maneuverability in CQB.

That is a TRUE statement. In tight spaces you don't want to have the stock extended like room to room fighting, it does make a huge difference, but when out in the open it is always best to have it extended as it is easier to aim and fire, and yes I have shot a mp40, ppsh41, Thompson, and my own Suomi Kp-31.

This has been covered. Yeah it would make it stick out more, but there isn't much of a difference. It won't be restricting your movement or anything.

If it came down to it, I'd love to see the bayonet/deploy MG button used to unfold the stock. (didn't really say I'd support it earlier)

Just depends on how TWI feels about bending to the mighty all-knowing forumites' wishes.

A muzzle in the face would be very effective. You could channel a lot of force into that small area ;) I'm sure I read of it being used somewhere years ago, although it could have been a Sven Hassel book.

Well, people do hit each other frequently with SMG muzzles in Hassel's books. But sounds do able, hitting someone into face or stomach with hot muzzle. I'd say the stock is more likely to bend than the muzzle.

I don't mind it that much if you can or cannot fold/unfold the mp40 stock. However if its impossible to fold/unfold the stock I would prefer the gun to be unfolded in the game.

I'd actually rather barrel point them with the muzzle than reach back and smash them with the stock. It would be much faster with any gun in RO.

maybe it's just my eyes, but it looks like the guy with the mp40 in the back (the engineer) has the stock extended.

Yes, it does actually. You have good eyes!

Edit:
In that picture, what is with the weird pouches that are clipping through the Kar98k pouches of the riflemen?

By golly bswearer, I am seeing the same thing. You can really see it on the side of the weapon above the firing mechanism, where the rod would usually be that led to the shoulder pad mechanism.

Seriously, the way I see it, in this picture, the stock is unfolded.

ya that's what i though once i saw this huge high res shot......in the trailer, i never picked up on it cause there was a wierd glare and it was just too quick. in the one image in the ROHOS site media section, it's not quite as big a size or as good a quality but this one is from the official steamgroup page.....

this mean the option to extend the mp40 stock is in? :)
