Have you actually tried sniping with the MP40? With the current set of maps there is a lot of open spaces. I tried to engage several targets 100+ yards away on Pavlovs house and it was not effective at all. Might have been latency, but any decent rifleman had no problem killing me. Below 100m it is however deadly and very accurate. Maybe they changed it in the patch?

yes exactly, those who are exagerating hugely on this thread please post proof of 200m kills with mp40.

I can make a youtube video, so far got a 120m kill frapsed firing at a guy's head as big as my front sight.

If both PPSH and MP40 recoil/accuracy are realistic, fine. But nerfing PPSH cuz it gets a drum mag later on and has higher rof is too "DICE" (they balanced PPSH in BC vietnam by putting 25 rounds in each drum mag, *cough*).

K new record, Spartanovka, firing MP40 from Church to that last Ruskie flag building, 164m headshot, frapsed. Think thats the max range I can get on the current maps, would be funny to try that on Fallen Fighters.

Probably gonna upload soon.

Every things fine with the mp40 up to 100m after that the accuracy should be nerfed some.It should be used as a close quarters assault weapon not a fully auto rifle that can engage targets 200m plus with great effect.
I believe that it's fairly realistic as it is.

From what I understand the effective range for MP-40 is 200 m, that means that it should be fairly accurate up to that range.
But that still doesn't mean the bullets should disappear after they reach 200 meters so even though it's more difficult, 250 m and even 300 meter kills should be quite possible with targets large enough and/or with some luck.

I don't understand what people complain about. MP-40 has an effective range of 200 meters. With a bit of luck I'm sure one could make a 300 meter kill or even longer.

Bullets fly straight, what's the problem? You should be hitting what you point the barrel at. That's how guns work.

My problem is less how MP40 is the ultimate pick on any map, for any range, its more how they stripped PPSH.
I supported this at 1st cuz I thought PPSH would out pwn Mp40 in every aspect if you had the drum at day 1, turns out realism (in TWI I trust) is balanced by default.. and we also get MP40/II so idk if drum is gonna halp too much.

Current PPSH is as silly as unlocking coaxial for tanks in BC2/BF3.
Edit: oh ya, bayonets too xD But at least RO1 dudes who prolly care most get them at day 1 so..

F*UCK YOU ZIPS
The effective range of the mp40 is 100m.

The effective range of the gun is 100m. But what is the effective range of the soldier?

The soldiers were cold (possibly frost-bitten), sleep-deprived, hungry, dehydrated, either wounded or ill, and had to spend most of their days running around to avoid getting shot. I SERIOUSLY doubt that the soldier could snipe a head at 150m with extreme ease like you can in RO2.

What is the hard part of understanding "effective" & "100m"? Beyond 100m the gun should lose alot of it's accuracy and killing/stopping power as it fires 9mm projectiles which are not designed to travel long distances.

That's a very slippery slope there. Why not add constantly jamming guns and tanks breaking down as random factor if we follow that path?

Remember that not all the battles in RO:HoS are fought during the harsh winter when supplies were running low especially on the surrounded German side.

You should also remember that you are the soldier in RO2.

The thing is, if you're going to be selective when it comes to realism you should talk about the gameplay impacts more. People use realism to describe why the game should play a certain way, but then if you suggest other realism elements they're shot down as not being fun. The point people are trying to make is that they want realism but for it to be fun at the same time, and "fun" is subjective. Some find it fun to have easier guns, for some it takes some fun out of it through reduced long term goals or shallower gameplay.
