Emphasis on the question mark.

Would it be a good idea to move the Stg44 to the auto-rifle class? This would lure people to the auto-rifleman class, which doesn't seem to be very popular (that I know of.) Also, it would keep the assault trooper class solely focused on close-range combat.

The main con is that it enables the Axis to get a lot more close-up firepower...but as it is now, they can get a lot of long-range capability.

Thoughts?

I think it fits fine where it is for historical reasons as well as because you would never see a g43 or g41 being used in place of an stg44. The stg44 is also strictly worse than either of those at range.

The Stg44 is not bad... I wouldnt take it sniping though.. The Germans had the first real assault rifle.. That had the capability of firing intermediate rifle rounds on semi or full auto.. a GREAT advantage over a smg or rifle, plus it had 30 rounds in the mag.. :D Id take it..

No, I don't think it unbalance the game and it is historical correct. It's reputation has maybe been a bit too good though of the games.

If the issue is "How do you make more people take the semi-auto rifle", um....I don't think there's any problem with that. Most of the time I see people preferring semi-autos for their versatility, and the same with the STG-44. There's only a few maps where bolties are preferable, but most of the maps we play have engagement ranges that still work for the STG and the semis.

I don't get why the Stgw44 is so inaccurate. I have missed targets with 10 or more precisely aimed shots at distances around 50m. I really aimed perfectly at them and the bullets impacted in a 1m circle around the target. The rifle was resting...
Shouldn't the Stgw44 have an effective range up to 150-200m?

Soemtimes the German sights can obscure the target, I find. I have trouble hitting much of anything with the G43, for example, but other people have no problems.

Anyone who hasnt experienced this to some degree isnt telling the truth. The grouping is strange with the stg44 and it can often take 6-7 bullets for one to actually go exactly where the crosshair is pointing, of course firing from the hip can make that 6-7 go to 30.

I actually prefer the G41 over a G43... Only problem is the reload time... also...
I would take a MP41 over a 40...:D

What's the point in lying about that?

I played Konigsplatz today with the StG and I was shooting infantry in singleshot at well over 100-200 meters with ease.

I don't know, sometimes it seems really accurate, maybe if you don't expect a perfect hit (i.e. moving target).
But if I see a target, that doesn't move and that is perfectly visible, and I lay my sights over him and make 1 shot, it will almost never hit. Sometimes it will take you an awful amount of ammo to hit it. With a kar 98, this is no problem up to 300-400m, every shot hits perfectly. But with the Stgw, it becomes a problem from 50m on.

Maybe you judged the distance wrong, because on K

The STG's effective range is only up to about 300m or so, I think. Most infantry engagements occur well within that, certainly on official maps. The bolt-action rifles are accurate up to about 800m, but we can't actually distinguish targets at that distance.

For the most part, I think we only ever engage at a MAXIMUM of about 500m in infantry combat, and even those are mostly just lucky shots.

People often overestimate the range in this game. IE: "Dude, I blew that tank up at like 1000m!!!" Actually it was more like 700m. "I just picked that guy off at like 600m!!" More like 350m, but still, good job -- that's not an easy shot.

Actually, its 300-500 meters at full auto and 650 at semi-auto from a few sources.

Rifles have an effective range of >800m. Even the best snipers said, that shots at this distances are nearly impossible or you have to fire multiple times to hit the target.

I would just like to shoot accurately with the stgw on distances of 100-200m. That would be awesome

I've noticed this issue with the STG44 as well, about half the time I use it I get weird groupings around the sights, even when resting the weapon, I mostly grab the STG44 when I plan to get in and spray an area.

But I'm not saying its innaccurate, there have been days I've made some pretty good long range shots, but mostly I get weird groupings around my sights when I do use it.
