I agree w/ OP. Perhaps the lean key could be mapped to this purpose, seeing as it was unused post MG-deploy in Ost.

In practice, the gunner of the MG at least in the case of the Mg42 could choose a point where he would attach his bipod to.
I think this is not the case with the 34, which appears to only have one fixed attachement point at the front of the barrel (please correct me if I am wrong here, but i have never worked with the 34 so I can only derive it from images and research)
But in the case of the 42, it means you can choose your "swing radius" by either attaching your bipod further to the front of the barrel or farther to the back.
Back would mean larger radius and front would cause a smaller radius. Maybe bipod attachement customization might lead to a solution to your problem/lower its effects. (this might decrease your accuracy though)

The MG34 also has two points for attaching the bipod; the forward position under the front sight and the rear position just under the rear sight. The rear position is for close range fighting as it enanbles the gunner to turn the gun rapidly to either side compared to when the bipod is in the forward position however the drawback is that the gun is more unstable when firing so long range shooting is much less likely to be effective - the reverse is the case when the bipod is in the forward position; you have a stable gun which is accurate and effective on long ranges but which is slow to turn and therefore not effective to use on close and fast targets.

As for the freedom of movement for the bipod; the bipod on my MG34 has a full 360 degrees movement so in principle you could place the gun and make a full 360 turn withouth lifting the gun, however the gun is not stable when the bipod is situated at large angles as it will begin to tilt to one of the sides so IRL you would lift the gun and resituate it and your self if you need to turn it more than 25-30 degrees or so.

Thanks mate, I expected there to be something(on the 34) but was not sure. Unfortunately I doubt we get a customization feature though. Because otherwise you could for ex. also ask for an "ironsight" customization in order to set the distance you are reasonably, accurately shooting at with your MG. Despite the fact that i could imagine that the latter could be easily implemented similar to the tanks sight adjustment.

Wouldn't surprise me if you could, since you can do it with the sniper scope and somewhat with the iron sight for the rifles at least.

Take into account human abilities too, a Mg is not some kind of 3.5Kg modern assault rifle, that you can throw around the way you feel like. You simply don`t have the 180degrees that you might expect of having. Pushing your body into the butt (lol i realize this sounds weird) hampers you from simply swinging around (again a lol damn).
