I'm just about to max the Kar98 which will mark the maxing of both factions bolt actions and I was wondering, which do you guys prefer. Are there any actual differences between the 2?

i get more hits with the MN - but i get more kills with the KAR.
Weird - both at same level - but people seem to get up after i shoot them with the MN a lot more.
had to put 3 into someone once...
guess i prefer the MN though.

The Mosin. The sight seems thinner.

I really like how there are only a few weapons in RO2, in contrast to other games. You get really good with them without becoming outclassed.

I like the Mosin more. When aiming down sight the gun seems to take up less space on my screen then the Kar 98. Also, I like the sights on the Mosinka a lot more. The little thingy at the end of the barrel that you aim with (don't know what it's called) is a lot smaller and it doesn't block the view on distant targets.

The only difference I've noticed between them is that the MN in-game doesn't eject the round in the chamber when the bolt is pulled to reload, giving you more leeway in topping it off. Which sounds like a bug :)

That could be part of the real weapon's design, like the Gewehr. I'm not sure though?

@Mekhazzio, that is actually possible with the Mosin Nagant. There is a video about it somewhere on the forums. Good luck on finding it though ^^

I got the Kar98 at level 50 at the moment and am a veteran rifleman so have acces to the Mosin Nagant as well as I mostly play german. The Mosin Nagant is a bit easier to aim with in my opinion and the bolting somehow feels smoother. Even though the Kar98 is reputed for being the OMG this is the best bolter ever. Usually stick with the Kar98 unless I forget to swap to it and end up with the Mosin Nagant. Good job to whoever thought I want to spawn with enemy gear by default

IRL the mosin has better ballistics, so if anything the mosin

Going to have to call you on that, I love Mosin Nagants (Own three of them, two Finns and an Izzy) but 7.92x57 is a far better cartridge than 7.62x54r. A larger, rimless round with a higher grain bullet. I must argue that, while similar, the war-time Mauser round has better ballistics than war-time Nugget food.

In game I prefer to use the K98. In my experience they function exactly alike, so when I have the choice I use the rifle which I think looks fancier.

Stats wise is there any difference? I seem to get a lot more wounds with the Mosin but tend to be more accurate with it, whilst I seem to nearly always get a OHK with the k98 but I miss more often. May just be me though.

I would like my Kar an awful lot more if I didn't get that silly double iron sight bug on all but one map.
