I know I have seen the post before about this topic but I couldn't find it so I will do it again.
I would love to see mortars as an actual playable class. Mortars are a great infantry support weapon. They don't need to fire a barrage like the commander can call in but single well placed mortar rounds are fearsome on the battle field (I know I am a retired Infantry soldier).
Why not make it like the commander where squad leaders and commanders can mark targets and the mortar crew sights in and lobs a round or two in. There was a MOD for COD WAW called brothers realism that added a pretty good mortar tube to the game that could be picked up and moved as needed but had limited rounds.
The rounds could be resupplied by team mates like the LMG's or from ammo points. I know I would love to see them added to the game as a depth of realism that is missing from so many games. The nice thing about mortars is it adds tactical awareness to the game as well since you definitely don't want to be caught in the open for fear of mortar fire. This will in a sense force a little bit more cover to cover movement.
