Most of the time stalkers are easily spotted even far away by non commandos. A better invisibility would make them a real threat and commandos would have more of a purpose in a team. Currently they are the weakest enemy in the game because of low hp and weak attack. Any thoughts?

First thing I'd like is to get rid of stalker shadows, just to even things out between people who can and who cannot afford the rather significant FPS hit in turning on projectors.

Conversely, I recall one time when I was able to turn down all the settings to "crap" in OpenGL mode and the stalkers were shimmering textureless metallic instead of having the invisible effect... I haven't bothered to try to replicate it since, but does anyone out there know what I'm talking about?

Realistically, if you're invisible then you would have no shadow as the light would pass straight through you. Thank you The Hollow Man for that info.
It was a whole movie based around invisible people, so i'm sure they got that right.

So on top of having no shadow unless visible (attacking) they should also STFU.

I kinda like the stalker voice, while it's instantly obvious when they're around it's really hard to tell without listening for a while just how many there are...

What would be interesting though is to throw in some random arbitrary echo effects that obscure the location of the sound, so you have to really pay attention to locate them that way.

...which reminds me of another suggestion...

I have to agree that it is more often the sound that gives them away than anything else. I've a surround sound set of headphones, and the same instincts to noise that helps me torch Spies in Team Fortress 2 helps me torch stalkers in KF.

And with the flamer, I barely need to hit them to contribute since once they've lit up even if they survive everyone knows where they are and they're quickly put out of their misery.

Hey, here's a terrible, terrible idea. What if there was another enemy that could go invisible? Something a bit tougher if less plentiful that also helps commandos level their perk? it would make a commando more useful since they'd be better equipped for dropping one and could pick it out of a crowd before it's up in your face meleeing you. Maybe make it stronger than a bloat but weaker than a husk. Still a threat, but not as big a deal as an invisible Scrake strength zed would be.

The sounds will give away their locations if there isn't much action going on, but still it's not too bad since often there are other specimens to worry about and then stalkers can attack you without you noticing them because you couldn't hear them over the battle.

second that, stalkers shouldnt be seen unless they attack or people are using commando, because stalkers are just a mosquito thats all, she can pin you sometimes when you backpedal or just suck a rocket, more than that no, shes useless because everybody can see her. Gief 100% invis plox

Well sure if you're watching carefully for enemies approaching you'll never miss a Stalker. But a quick glance to check for enemies you can easily overlook them and get a few hits in the back as a Gorefast approaches or somet.

But yeah in general they are a bit weak, no less because a lot of camping spots give enemies only 1 or 2 closely packed approaches so Stalkers get caught in the fire anyway.

Well if you are 100% invisible you also wont be able to see anything unless you "See" through different means than what your "Invisible to", meaning if your 100% invisible to the naked human eye, you also wont be able to see with a naked human eye, but if you use say "Thermal" goggles you will be able to "See" because you aren't cloaked against thermal. However if you have a shadow your not 100% invisible therefore you can still see without requiring viewing gadgets.

I was bored.

Blob shadows really make it easy to see a Stalker. They have a moving beacon at their feet. Remove their shadows entirely, even when they phase in, or something.

Shadow fix and strike on move like Gorefast/Scrake = Stalker win :)

Mind you... play YoYo's KF Story port and I swear Stalkers are silent and invisible... I truly cacked myself at least 5 times at the hands of a stalker ambush... Even when I knew they were ocming they scared the **** out of me o_O

Tripwire seems pretty damn intent on not doing a single thing about the Stalker ever. Similar suggestions have been made again and again over a year ago and, lo and behold, nothing changed.

For me personally the performance drop comes so close to completely cancelling out the benefit of seeing their shadows that to me they're shadowless anyway.

I get hit by stalkers a lot compared to other people, even when I'm blatantly aware of their presence (and in fact actively attacking them).

Can you rephrase that for the people who aren't rocket scientists please?

I'm afraid i'm not sure i know exactly what you're on about, though i think i get it.

Though what's this about viewing gadgets?

Hey i'm a rocket scientist, but thats more physics ><

I think what he's getting as is technically if you are 100% invisible, the light is not hitting you at all and instead passes straight through you completely undistorted and in order to see the light hits the back of your eyes. In other words your eyes wouldn't be receiving light because that implies absorption/distortion of some kind so to be 100% invisible you also couldn't see anything and would be utterly blind.

But if you go outside the visible spectrum you may be able to receive infrared while still being completely invisible so using thermal goggles would let you see.

Of course in reality its complete bollocks and utterly impossible :D That or you happen to have crossed the Stalkers with the Predator...

Panes of perfect glass do not cast shadows (except at their edges because they distort light.) Imagine Stalkers as glass.
