Just for the record to you guys bashing him for this suggestion, somebody DID already do this years ago for Red Orchestra Ostfront.

And it probably wasn't any fun, as stated in previous posts. Until the day you have FPS games with server populations in the 10Ks and with the hardware to handle a massive beach invasion map, they will either be A. Only fun for the defenders B. Disappointing to historical accuracy folks C Just not plain epic enough.
Why not just have a Volga river crossing like in COD2 (i think it was COD 2) when they copied enemy at the gates intro ?? Infact it was rated as number 2 as best COD moments.

I remember that beach map. And my god was the beginning frustrating. Once you got into the pillboxes things were much more even, but until then it was basically crawling up the beach, hoping you didn't get seen by an MG and turned into swiss cheese or sniped by the all-too-willing marksmen and riflemen in the bunkers.
That said, a beach map that actually had some form of cover would be a lot of fun to play. I don't know why, but stepping off a transport onto a beach and storming the enemy gives a feeling of satisfaction that almost nothing else can reach. I could've sworn there was a map like that in Ostfront (probably the Volga).

While that would satisfy the beach landing market, however it wouldn't be historically accurate.
There was no mass beach landing and fighting your way up to the buildings.
Sure people died crossing the river and were killed on the river bank, but nothing like COD or Enemy at Gates depicted.

The 29th could have been at Stalingrad. Assuming early mobilization, then its just a question of a boat ride to murmansk and a train ride to stalingrad.
Easypeasy. Given so many things that could have been at Stalingrad are ingame already.

you want a D-day map so do a lot of people and many modders maybe they want to take on this once the sdk is released give it 6 months or so.
i can almost certainly guarantee that they won't do a western front map on a game based on Stalingrad.

Right. Upham was the man from the 29th ID. They guy who spoke German and French and who survived.
To all those saying Omaha is not a fun map for attackers you are wrong. I just played it yesterday in DH as the Americans and it was loads of fun. In the first landings almost everyone got mowed down, but as more and more of us came we soon captured the first two caps. And there is no better feeling than crawling to those pesky bunkers and finally lobbing a grenade in there to kill that Mg that was giving you such a hard time. Its not for everyone but it isnt horrible and unbalanced either as some here say.
I suppose one can do up a map with the troops landing on the west bank of the Volga while the Germans try to capture the landing area.
Next you're going to be telling me that there were -other- countries storming the beaches at Normandy, or that the Russians were fighting 80% of the German Army even during the height of the Western Front, or something crazy like that.
One of the most memorable gaming moments I've ever had... I think it was COD 1 tho. Enemy at the Gates came first i think
