Don't think there is a thread about this (all of them are about WWII).

I'm looking for a modern tank sim to play. Preferably one with good sounds, realism and variety in landscapes and weather settings. Which are some of the best modern-era tank sims?

Thanks. :)

Steel Beasts Pro PE. If you have the 150$ to spend on it  First version is said to be good too, but it's very very outdated.

Other than that, I don't think there are anything good to mention. Maybe ArmA(which you already play) and Project Reality may satisfy you too.

I played the demo of T72 Balkans on Fire, thought it was pretty good; you might want to give that one a go.

Only modern tank sim I've played a long time was M1 Tank Platoon on the Amiga :) that was pretty cool, loved being inside the tank when arty strikes hit :p

Tried T72 demo but didnt buy it. Steel Beasts look great, kinda steep prize though. Is it really good?

T72 Balkans on Fire was great from a simulation and graphical aspect but it suffered from having basically no coherent campaign and very few single player missions.

It was like a tech demo with a half arsed sp component.

Sure, it may not have the detail of CoD4 or Crysis, but that's what you get with big levels and complicated armor calculation etc. It looks more than acceptable for me.

Is that from the latest build? From the vids Ive seen, the terrain/tanks are no where near as detailed as that!

Can you direct me to any vids showing off the good stuff which I may have missed?

Also the thing that I hate about modern tank warfare is the pure lack of armour calculation that is required! Surely most modern rounds ie SABOT, can take out a tank easily no matter what the tank is??

WW2 tanks sims on the other hand require more so called 'complicated armor calculation' because they were just firing lumps of metal at each other that required hitting sweet spots on enemy tanks!

I bought SB Pro a year ago.
IMO it's the only real modern tank simulator around.
Just visit their forums and watch some movies there.
The gameplay is excellent, there are even groups which play together with tactics and very good teamplay.

If you want real tactics and teamplay: just buy it.

Regarding the armor comment, yeah, that's pretty much true, but that's why Russia in example, developed reactive armor so a tank can survive the first shot that would've destroyed it and have an opportunity to take out the engaging tank. But yeah, nowadays everyone can penetrate everyone (sounds great, doesn't it? :p).

Sucks that there's no demo for SB Pro... yeeez how hard can it be to make a demo available to those wanting to try it out?? Oh thats right RO has no demo either lol :D

Anyway, i always like try before i buy, but it also uses som usb-bondongle for security so no luck on the "usual" sites either...

I've got Steal Beasts classic (original) with all its terrible GFX and textures. But if you want nothing but the best, steal beasts (pro pe) is the way to go.

The thing I love about the steal beasts is that it really isn't all that hard to start playing (not well though :p). None of this "learn what every key on the keyboard does to drive" since your keyboard isn't a tank interior (its nowhere near as intuative). I'm not playing for the complexity of the controls, im playing for the realism of the gameplay itself. Mind you, there are still alot of controls you need to know to fight well.

I bought mine for 45$ at a walmart quite a while ago.
