Probably between tits.
I couldn't find a more appropriate forum for this question. Sorry if this ticks anyone off.

Anyway.

Ever since Infiltration for the original Unreal Tournament was released, I've been longing for a developer to come out with a proper realism-oriented present-day FPS.
I realise that most people would point to ARMA2 in this instance, but the Bohemia-developed FPS-franchise has just too poor of a polish for me to be interested. Generic, poorly made reloads, abhorrent voice-communication system, unpolished gameplay with a poorly optimized engine...
Compare that to the level of polish and professionalism that Tripwire has brought forth in their Red Orchestra-franchise so far. It's a no-contest.
I'm simply wondering if there's any interest with the developers - and the community - to work on a present-day title, sporting the same realism-parameters of the RO-franchise.

Have to disagree with you there. For the voices: considering that there are literally millions of possible speech lines, would you rather they spend a couple decades on recording a good-sounding voice for every possible spotting or warning?

The highlighted part might have been a bit harsh by me, but I stand by my comment on the voice-system one hundred percent. It sounds absolutely horrible, and everytime I hear someone use the radio in OFP or ARMA, it sucks immersion right out of the room. It's as if they can't even string together two words without sounding like robots. The system itself might be inescapable, but the execution is, for lack of a better term, piss-poor.

They REALLY improved the voice system in Operation Arrowhead and the BAF DLC.

Arma 2 and arrowhead is excruciatingly poorly optimised IMO, hopefully that Modern Warfare mod gets made for Red Orchestra HOS, I'm sure it would be very good.

Yeah, In country: Vietnam should be good, it would be the closest thing to the Modern Warfare mod.:)

You realize that there is, of course, an option to turn the AI voices off? Having something so trivial up there with "unpolished gameplay" (which it does not feature) and "unoptimized engine" (which is definitley a problem for some people, but to have it as a sweeping, universal statement is a blatant lie.) is rather silly, no?

here to kill your monster
arma2....arma....flashpoint...wouldn't be the same without the voices as they are.

I'm sure the devs want to see as many mods as possible, but with the official pacmod, iron europe ww1, in country vietnam (all of which are underway to varying extents) there's plenty to be getting on with and i'd rather see them reach their potential than other mods crop up as distract from them.
That said, with in country hopefully being a spiritual sucessor to vietcong somewhat, a rainbow six style mod wouldn't go amiss....

I would like a what if WW3 scenario based on the period when the cold war was on the edge the most.

Definitely. Best time period for a modern wargame IMO. Before all the armies have fully modern weapons systems. Makes things more interesting, IMO. Besides, who doesn't want to pile out of the back of a BMP-2 and put some lead down range with an AK-74 as a T-80BV rolls up behind your mechanized squad and puts an APSDFS round into the turret of a M1 Abrams that had just swung its turret towards you?

EDIT: Of course, a mod like that would hugely benefit if the playerlimit was much, much higher (I.E 1,000 people per server.) I guess we'll just have to wait 6 years or so before that kind of technology crops up.

Modern warfare is all about distant engagements and usually the air force takes care of everything, except when there are civilians in the warzone and for that reason the war must be taken to a guerrilla level, which is what we see in Iraq and Afghanistan. We will probably never see a large CQB in a war again unless it's between really poor countries that don't have sattelites or a solid air force.

Well, the VG industry is abandoning WWII and I really don't like it. It's up to great indie companies like TWI to keep this fantastic genre alive.
