Has anybody successfully compiled it for Linux or is it absolutely necessary to use the windows compiled MIM/plugins + wine? I saw in the desktop thread that /linuX/gitano has Miranda running. I wish he could tell us how to manage this. thanks. :D

MIM is the most customizable messenger ever, if it looks crappy you can turn it into something real good. just look at gitano's screenshot in desktop thread -- which brings me to the next question.. has anyone been able to get clist_modern to work with MIM? are there other ways to make the contact list fully transparent?

it's a shame there's no build for it on linux.

Hiho,

Hehe, never realized that i already have some fans here :D.
Well, not to disappoint you guys but that screenshot you mean is actually a shot from a former xp installation running bblean.

And while looking at that screenie again i am really wondering why you didnt ask me how in earth i managed to get ROEd running in linux ... :D

Regarding Miranda: Well if such a thing like a multiprotocol IM is preventing u from switching... there are really tons of alternatives (and better ones too, imo). Pidgin is maybe the first choice, it even runs xfire protocol with the gfire plugin (http://edhewitt.co.uk/gfire/) and imho the coolest thing about it is finch, the commandline client of pidgin coming alongside with the gtk client in most distros. Also there are other IM's like Kopete, centericq etc.

But if you wanna run Miranda on Arch, i'd say go for it! Thats exactly the way how i got really involved into Linux, having a more special program at hand which didn't run/ was not supported/ etc and going through the progress of reading doku, using google and learning the commandline. Actually, thats way more interesting than any internet game :).

greetz,
gitano

lol...

sorry, i should've given a better look at that screenshot (seeing cygwin down there makes it even less probable that you're running a linux distro lol)

sorry for the bother :D

I don't like the messengers existing for linux. pidgin is sluggish and isn't as customizable as miranda which is several times faster and low on ram usage. I might give finch a try... but I'm not looking that much into lightweight :D

thanks again!
