I know I can be boring with all that "dark beer is good for you ", but Baltika have a pleasant porter in the offer:Although next trip I think Ill get a 12 pack of Hofbrau and another 12 8% Baltikas.
GAH11,5% and it is still tasting smooth and fruity (bananan of course) as any Belgium ale.
Wow, what was starting wort gravity? 11,5% ABV is serious stuff :IS2:I am currently cooling my mg42 with a very powerful triple. I would tell you the brewery and origin of the ale, but it is in fact a homebrew. A very powerful one at that. The recipe stated it would be 9% alc but my enhanced methods of absorbing the carbohydrates of the mash has created a monster of 11,5% and it is still tasting smooth and fruity (bananan of course) as any Belgium ale.
Not into all that. Reminds me of german Fransikaner.Yeah DT is a Tripel, a classic specimen, great beer. To be honest, if you get into the "big beers", 11 or 12% isn't all that uncommon.
Stella does come from Belgium, but to be honest it's not even a Belgian style beer, its a Pilsner. The real Belgians all use Belgian yeast, which is the taste you probably thought was wheat. Belgian yeasts all have a very characteristic taste and smell... and once you get into them, they really offer a whole new (old) world of beer. Saisons, Wits, Dubbels, Tripels, Quadrupels, Strong Dark Ales, Golden Ales, Flemish Reds, Belgian Pale Ales, Lambics, Trappists, Abbey Ales ... therein you will find what most beer connoisseurs consider the best beers in the world. Nobody pimps a Hefeweizen or Brown Ale as best in the world, but they fight over which Quad or Strong Dark Ale is the best beer ever made...
Last night I drank another Unibroue, this time Trois Pistoles, Belgian Strong Dark Ale... excellent beer.
California has largest basque imigrant population in the world it should have these beers.Yeah I don't think I've ever had Spanish or Basque beer. I'll keep an eye out.
The problem with San Miguel in murica is that where I am I could never find the real one. Instead I find a Filipino version where the bottle looks weird. And it certainly doesnt taste the same. For the uninformed Filipins was once Spanish colony. We definitely have beers from all over, and one of my friends married a girl in the basque community... but I just haven't sought these beers out. I've certainly heard of San Miguel.
Tonight I'm having an Anchor Porter
For me it's a golden one on the red backgroundEstrella Damm from Catalonia, oldest brewery there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estrella_Damm
Notice the red star on the bottle
