I don't know if this has been suggested before, but what if the just the tripods for the mg's are sationary. So the machine gunner can go up and mount his mg on the tripod and he can also take it off after he is done shooting an move agian.I think that this would make it so the mg positions are less predictable well still keeping the tripods.

First of all:

Watch that. In a nutshell, literally everything you're asked about is already in Red Orchestra 2.

And second, but no less important:

^that. Is a BI-POD.

How do you know the difference?

You're very-very welcome!

^ that is a lafette tripod and the thing the OP was talking about.

The lafette can be seen in some HOS videos standing statically in the open and can be seen actively used in the latest screen shots. Most people expect the mg34 on the lafette to be a stationary object in a map. Click here for screenshot

Hence the suggestion by the OP to basically allow MG soldiers to mount their MG on the lafette tripod. This way more lafette's could be placed in a map giving more variation in where a mg could Setup.

Personally ideally I'd hope that either a player could pickup and move the lafette (being unable to shoot while moving it). Or that a commander similar to tf2 turrets could order a lafette to be deployed somewhere.

Good idea!

maybe there are 5-10 stationary tripods located on the map (depending on mapsize)
and the MG gunner can use whichever he wants.

So fixed MG lociations wouldnt be predictable - you dont know if its used or not.

Non moveable tripod mounted machine guns will lead to linear and predictable map play like in CoD and BIA and to be honest - that I don't want to play.
Make the tripod mounted mgs moveable or don't bother making them.

Hear hear! I'm all for implementing medium or heavy-mount machine guns, but if they're going to be static objects i'd rather not have them at all for the reason above.

Moveable MMGs: Increased variety in gameplay and tactical possibilites.

Static MMGs: Decreased variety in gameplay and tactical possibilities.

Agreed on making them movable. If this were to be implemented, I would want to see it at its fullest capacity (animations for folding, carrying, deploying, etc.). Here is a picture of one mounted on a soldier's back:

I do see some problems with thease ideas:

1) How long would it take to mount the MG on a tripod? if it takes too long, then it's probably not going to happen much outside of clan matches.

2) How long would folding the whole tripod take? see above^

3) How would this be balanced with the Russians? there's no conveniant tripod mount for the DP-28, so we can expect to see them get the Maxim as a mounted MG, but they are hardly going to run around with a Maxim and it's mount/cart on their back.

With trained crew I would suppose like 2 minutes max. So in game it could be like 30-40 sec.

Same as above.

Poor tovarists would have to just tow their carriage. Like they IRL did. Pretty nasty stuff on bad surface, stairs etc... Hard to implement in game.

Mg34 with tripod is only 20 kg so i think
you are able to move with the whole thing
without folding.

Not kilometers but running few meters or carrying it 50 meters would be possible.

And when its monted it would be quite deadly with
250bullet openbelt and telescopesight which make you
able to keep head down.

But on the gameplay point of view. I think best solution
would be that there would be "stationary" heavy mg.
Which you could tow in room from window to other.

If it's too much of a hassle, just give it half a dozen randomized spawn locations on any one map. Sure people will memorize the locations, but it'll stop a t34/76 from rolling 5 meters out of spawn and HEing it 15 seconds into the match.

Randomizing isn't as optimal. As a team might be at a disadvantage due to having their mg randomly spawn in a ****e location. Next to that one person could easily switch team and look at the locations and then switch back and still he the hell out of it.

They can't Be moved as easily as some think, because every time they are they have to be re-leveled and re-ranged in the Vertical. They are also very limited in the Horizontal and that's why they are purely a defensive/ambush set-up for suppresion type role..Believe Me they are a PITA

I say **** balance if this were to be implemented. Soviets should get what they had. If it is too hard to include a rolling MG mount (which I imagine it would be), then don't include it at all.

Having a transportable tripod for the Germans would be pretty amazing.

What about having an AI squad member carry the tripod and then have the human gunner pick where to place it. The AI could also act as a loader. Though I suppose things would get complex as soon as the bot was killed.
