so from what i know, TWI have always wanted to include a proper story mode in KF, and are apparently working on that.

to keep us going, they've given us an objective mode (which is lookin' ace, so far).

so anyways, whilst i was playing RE4: THE MERCENARIES on my PS2, i thought to myself, why not make a mode somewhat similar to Mercenaries in KF? or hell, just a mutator.

for those that don't know, Mercenaries for Resident evil is a time-based gamemode which pits you (one of the Resi heroes, or villains) against lots and lots of infected humans and other B.O.W's. the trick to surviving in this gamemode is to kill. kill-kill-kill. doing so will reward you with more points, which you can stack up in combo's, and successful melee kills will earn you an additional 5 seconds for each kill. however, you won't be able to survive on melee kills alone, as the clock is always ticking, starting at 1:30 and constantly dropping. to help extend your kill combos and get more time, you can melee attack time crystals scattered around each map, each giving around 30-90 seconds extra. if you die, you fail, all your points are lost, and you'll have to start all over again. survive until the end however, and you ae rewarded with a pretty highscore, perhaps a few unlocks, and something to boast to your buddies about. anyways, why not implement this into KILLING FLOOR, so that players have something else to do whilst they wait for the story-mode to be fully developed?

it works as a quick timekiller (rather than just blasting through a normal survival map), and if implemented properly, could serve as a really good mode for KF.

however, if we were to include this, it would obviously need some changes.

for a start, we all know the 'zerker is OP. if people constantly go that class, then the time limit will just be POINTLESS. no-one wants it to be too easy, seeing as KF's objective is to SURVIVE, not breeze through the damn game.

So what can we add to the KF Time crisis mode, if we were to include it?

how would we nerf the Beserker effectively, but not make it completely useless?

What specimens would give what time bonuses? perhaps the FP could give 30 seconds if you dispose of it quickly?

I stopped reading at time crystals.

But from what I grasp, FRAGWHOREFEST would be a more suitable name for this mode.

I freaking loved The Mercenaries mode. Played the ones in RE 4, 5, and 6.
Now that someone has mentioned it, that mode has a lot of mechanics that could really make Killing Floor more interesting.

-Time crystals would force players to actually move around the map.
-Preset loadouts with hand placed ammo/weapons to limit overpowered builds.
-Strategically placed red barrels/hazards for racking up combos.
-Time limit actually makes players focus on killing efficiently rather than kiting forever.

The only thing missing would be the stylish melee moves and climbable set pieces. I would love it if KF had a similar mode.

KF has quite different inventory, item spawning, and healing systems, compared to re4.
You'd have to change a lot in order to replicate mercs in kf.
Either a lot of what makes kf kf, or a lot of what makes mercs mercs.

But in the most general sense, yeah, a KF game mode where you're pressured to kill speedily would be neat.

Nobody remembers DA2...

Ironically, Defence Alliance 2 already has a mode like this and nobody plays it.
