Meleeing Patriach help

Hey guys, just got this game during the Halloween sale and its been full of awesomeness for me!

So, I finally got to level 6 zerker after playing non-stop and decided to learn how to take on the Patriach with a melee weapon. After some practice, I can manage to put up a decent fight but I still get killed most of the time just because of one thing....

His walking claw attack....

His claw is JUST. FREAKING. HARD to dodge! I have no problem if he's just gonna use his tentacle or his standing swipe... but if he uses this attack, I'm pretty much dead because most of the time he's gonna follow it up with his chaingun.. which is impossible for me to stop in time cause I'm too far away.

I only have the katana/axe in my inventory so i guess my speed isn't the issue here... Think anyone could help me with this problem? Also, I apologize for any wrong grammar in this post

You're not going to like this answer, but meleeing the Patriarch by yourself is suicide. You need a team of high-level Berserkers with chainsaws to be truly effective.

Erm actually i've done it as a level 6 when 11 others in the server died almost solo. You just need to learn how to dodge the hit and when he goes to shoot, smash him to stop the attack. It's all about your technique that's all.

For the running claw attack, you have to run right into him to kill his momentum, then immediately back away. To ensure you get out in time, you should already be moving towards him when you first enter his attack range - if you hesitate, he'll catch you flat-footed. Beyond that, it's just practice.

Look i did it with a couple of low level zerks. All u got to do is all use the alternative attack.(Middle mouse) on hard btw. just get in a small building and everyone get around him slashing him with of course chainsaws.

See you're talking about a team doing the same, we're talking about solo where you do it on your own. That chainsaw trick is just a "cheating" trick that sort of bugs the patriarch so I personally wouldn't advise it

All I can say is level-up a bit and you will learn a few techniques due to the new speed, damage etc etc.

To threadstarter: make sure you have some cover around, so while he's spinning up his chaingun you duck behind cover. Ideally you want to fight the Patriarch in an open area with a few bits of cover to hide behind. Mountain Pass is a good map. Do you use the Axe against him? You may or may not be aware, but the Axe does more damage than the Katana in a single hit, it just attacks more slowly. If you keep using the Axe's alt-fire on the Patriarch's head you'll do a decent amount of damage. Entangler and FluX know what they're talking about, listen to them. (I don't think I knew you could interrupt his chaingun attack.)

I agree a few of the guys above, its suicide to charge a patty let alone attack it as a zerker. The only way your gonna take that down is if you constantly swarm him with the entire team.

If 6 Level 6 Sharpshooters all shot the Patriarch twice perfectly with Xbow headshots they would deal a total of 34560 points of damage.

Patriarch's HP on a 6 man HOE game is 33250. So yes, it would.

However, the fact he drops to one knee and then turns invisible before running away to heal makes it nearly impossible to do it in one fell swoop, so although it's mathematically possible, realistically its not feasible

If anyone's a bit curious about my progress, here's one of my runs with the Patriarch on Hard... I couldn't record on a real game/map cuz it would take too much time and space... Nothin' special for most of the people here, but I gotta start somewhere right?

Well, I mostly use the katana cause its much quicker and has a bit longer range than the axe... (is the range part right?) But now that I think about it, I guess the extra range doesn't matter in the first place.... Oh well, might try the axe sometime...

Yeah about that... what I meant was I kinda jump instinctively whenever he tries to swipe me so if he hits me I get knocked back really far which gives him time to rip me into shreds with his gun..
