Stalingrad was known for it's vicious close combat. When weapons ran dry soldiers took whatever means they had to continuing fighting. One of the most popular melee weapons would be entrenching tools with sharpened edges. Heavily favored by the Germans during infantry assaults. This is a simple weapon that both sides used is close combat.

It would have 2 types of attacks. A tpyical swinging motion to slice and a alternate attack to bludgeon enemies with the face of the shovel.

Personally, I think adding extra melee attacks is just going to make things overly complicated. A single melee attack button should suffice. Often people seem to think adding extra buttons and whatnot make a game more realistic, when I find it often just adds complexity and frustration to newcomers without adding anything beneficial in return.

Though on the other hand, I would like to see a dedicated melee weapon slot. Even if only to avoid the awkward "oh noes, lost my gun now I can't do anything" instances from RO1.

Or simply have the melee key work even if you have nothing equiped - even if its a desperate punch/kick type move, its better than nothing.
