The AI seems to go out of there way to melee you when they have a loaded gun. It's ridiculous. Melee is more lethal then bullets at times! A few times I've gotten hit with melee and it counted as a fatal wound, where I can get shot 3 or four times with a rifle and bandage up! I shot an enemy in the leg one time with a rifle, only for him to get a one hit KO at me with his rifle. It's godamn ridiculous. TW, do something to tweak the melee. Or I'd almost like it removed.

I wish I had 1 hit KOs. I was in an apartment match as the Russians just after release, I was able to sneak in the House behind A and found a German SL. I figured, hey first Melee kill. Run up behind him as I hold the melee *WHACK*.

He's still up
*whack*
what the?!?
*whack whack*
*bang* (I was a rifleman, blood mist and some splatter on the wall from his abdomen)
grr...
German SL: Stupid mosquito *turns around* oh hi
*tat tat* with his MP40
Badastle has died

um...... yeah, worst 5 seconds in game. Every time I hit him, I got the sound and he was reacting to the hits.

I haven't tried to Melee again, if I sneak up on someone, I shoot for the head.

True story :p

I melee people all the time and hear the effect as though I just hit a wall. Does no damage and often results in my death. ( thats people in all stances not just prone ).

I think the real solution here is to bolster the damage of bullets. I lean out all the time and pitter patter 4 9mms into the torso of a russian and he has time to IS and shoot me and I die, he just bandages....

( we're talking range of 5 feet here on a guy standing still, no chance my 9mm were missing )

One of the reasons there should be some penalties when getting hit. Our avatars don't feel pain and can ignore their wounds. It's totally ridiculous IMHO, just like a good part of the design choices TWI made.

There's a mod called Fire and Manuever Realism that will be adding penalties for getting hit in melee. It will reduce damage done (doing no damage is a bug though) but add in a large flinch and such so you're disoriented after getting smacked with a rifle butt.

The bots are secretly ninjas doing field exercises. Atleast, thats how it feels in melee.

This that should be looked on considering melee imho.
Bayonet range and hit effects.
While this may be incorrect it seems that a rifle with a bayonet charge can reach enemies over 2m away. I witnessed it as the attacker as well as the being stabbed. Few times i got killed by people charging at me thinking i have time to shoot a burnst in their face and it turned out i was dead before the guys weapon could have touched me.
Hitting someone with a bayonet in the torso area results in an instant death. I somehow cannot imagine a persons vital signs would cease imminently after being stabbed with a blade. Unlike being shot - where the victim suffers from heavy shock or bludgeoned with a heavy object where it results with loss of conciousness i think the effect of bleeding or terminal bleeding would be more appropriate as a result of bayonet stab unless it hits the heart or head directly.
Now for the rest of the melee weapons. As mentioned before it is true that whacking someone on prone seems bugged. But remember that all the weapons have their own melee damage factor, probably based on their weight and shape.
The mp40 is light and has a frame butt-stock so its no wonder it makes no impression when patting a tough syberiak DP operator repeatedly with it. Its a pitty we cannot simply jump on ones head and brake his neck with an army boot just like in Mario.
Unfortunately a prone enemy has a better chance of surviving a melee attack than in any other stance so thats something that needs to be looked at.
Still it seems that all the bludgeon weapons need to have a bigger shock effect on the enemy. Sudden morale drop + screen shake and rocking would be advised. The first hit may not kill the victim but it might confuse enough he will not be able to retaliate effectively.

Placing mines in your ammo box
WORDSWORDWORDS

Hate to break it to you, but having a very sharp object lodged in your chest cavity can kill you instantaneously; provided it's in the right spot. Also, you were talking about blunt trauma from the bullet. Don't you think an adrenaline fueled frantic rifleman, thrusting a heavy rifle with a knife on it as hard as he possibly can, would hit pretty ****ing hard? Despite bayonets being sharp, they have a LOT of force behind them.
