As far as I'm concerned, that rifle-butt in the vid was proof of a "melee button". It's hard to say for sure when you're dealing with a fraction of a second of footage, BUT I think the attack may have stunned the Zed.
This modular gun system is quite interesting; I think it's based around how Medics tend to use cross-class weapons more than any other perk (or at least did before the last couple SMGs got added to the game)
So now, instead of doing that, you can get an on-perk weapon in the style of other class' weapons, that also has the feature of caseless ammo (they mentioned that made for light recoil and overall weapon weight. Do you suppose the tradeoff will be less damage, or more expensive ammo?)
It's not just really neat-looking, it's also a very clever design choice. Bravo, Tripwire!
(Also reminds me of Mass Effect technology. Glowy parts, caseless ammo, modular guns... Might change my name to "Shepard" whenever I plan to Medic.
