The art style is quite different. It's more like a movie now than a comic, even tough it still is heavy on inner monologue.
And it ties only very loosely into parts 1 and 2, but at least it doesn't contradict the lore of the two, so you can still almost fully appreciate it with no knowledge of the story, but if you do know it, you're not raging all the time.
And a interesting sidenote: Max is modeled after his voice actor who voiced him in all three parts for the first time. So while his looks don't fit with the continuity (well, WHAT continuity, you might ask...

), I feel like it's the way Max actually supposed to look like.
