[Game] Mass Effect Question

Alright no spoilers please but is there any way to save both Kaiden and Ashley on the mission to Virmire (the one where the Salarians mount a distraction and you're team "Shadow" and sneak in the backdoor to try to find Saren and meet the reaper)? I tried a few different things but it always comes down to choosing between one or the other (even when I have an alien as part of my two team members). Call me racist (lol), but I'd rather have 2 humans in my "entourage" after this mission...

You have to sacrifice one of them. I would recommend Ashley as she's an Alien hate monger and I prefer to have sexual relations with Liara

Aw well screw it, I'll just go with Kaiden. I'm playing a male Shepard but he's just a much more well written and interesting character. Hopefully there's more human chicks in ME2. (are there?)

There's no way to save both, sadly there's no way to leave both strapped to the bomb either. There are 2 (+1 DLC) women in Mass Effect 2, both are unlikable and plain ugly.

There aren't any likable characters in either Mass Effect, imo. Except Dr. Chakwas, but interaction with her is a little limited.

You must play the first one, there are a ton more decisions to be made then what is chosen at the beginning/training segment of ME2.

I told Kaiden to go guard the bomb. I can't imagine a character build where his skills would be in any way useful compared to the other characters, and his dialogue comes off as whiney. Though I suppose that's justified since he's in constant pain. Probably did him a favor.

True, and when Liara finally becomes an interesting character in ME2 you can't recruit her.

Really wish it had let me choose "Insane" at the start... I'm going to Ios now (think it's the last mission... don't tell me if it is or not though please )... feels a bit too easy. Sure I die sometimes, but it's pretty rare. I went infiltrator commando and my pistol's like a frigging machine gun with its ROF and accuracy (AND damage), and my sniper rifle one shots ANYTHING. Combine that with a character with biotic skills and it's just ridiculous. Anything that gets closed gets lifted, pushed, or in an extreme case I have them put in stasis till we deal with other threats . Hardly ever have to use medigels or even grenades. I'm on "Veteran"... all the higher options were grayed out.
