Six months after Operation Crusader had driven his Afrika Korps back from the walls of Tobruk, Lieutenant General Erwin Rommel returned to the city, bent on finally breaching its fortress-like defences. In a surprise attack, Rommel is attempting to achieve his objective, by breaking through the interwoven network of bunkers and gun positions which protect one of the most strategically important locations in the North African campaign.
