Maps in the quality of stock maps?

Would be nice, if someone could tell me a few maps in the quality of the original KF-maps.

As far as i know:
Refugee
Waterworks
DarkRoads


I heard something about NorthSea, but haven't seen it on a server till jet..


Post the GOOD (looking) maps, but don't forget that the gameplay of it has to fit!

Hello.

Hello.

I have several of them on my servers. I have a HC and Normal server. There are so many good looking maps in my opinion. Some better then the original. I am a rookie map builder myself. So I try to keep the servers updated. I also put beta maps on there so others can help test. If you want to view them just go to my servers below. You can vote for any map you want. I also have the original maps on there to. This way you can thumb through them and decide on your own. I do not have every map ever made. However I think I have most of them.

the gameplay is the best in these maps. mountainpass there is a spawnpoint that needs to be fixed but it still beats most maps. Plus it looks fantastic. Forgive me if i missed some good map ;)

lol you got to be kidding me. all ez maps

even in mountain pass, they hardly ever spawn so that 1 is waaaay ez.
stock quality maps like foundry and biolab have constant action, most of the maps out there dont have enough action to match the TW credentials. They have the visuals to match them, but not the game play.

Mountain Pass looks very good. I just read about beta 2. He said something about making it a lot harder. So maybe it will be how you like. If so that is an awesome looking map.

I don't think any of the community made maps are yet up to the TWI standards, but believe me thy're getting there. Remember that this is a new game, so modders haven't had much time to get experienced in whatmakes the gameplay sublime yet.

it my be a new game but not a new editor. heck unreal ED has been out since about 1998 when unreal gold came out.

And yet you say the maps have the look but not the gameplay, so the problem is that it's a new game - not a new editor. Maybe. Idk.

there are ppl who know the editor, yet dont know KF's gameplay quite as well. and there are ppl who dont know the editor, and dont know KF's gameplay whatsoever. ive seen proof of both.

Yeah I've got to agree. Prison looks fine....but from a game play perspective it's got one glaring problem.....there is one super excellent camp spot and the rest is a death trap. I've never played Prison where everyone didn't hole up by the trader.

I think this points out the problem. Some people think good KF maps are the ones that allow them to kill specimen with impunity until almost the end of the game. Defense is the biggest offender here. It's practically a perk level map for how easy it is and how it caters to the players.

Others think a good KF map is one where there are almost no good camp spots. Where almost every spot in the game is accessible to 2 - 3 spawn points. Some people hate those maps because they die in Wave 2....compared to Defense where you have to TRY to die that early.

Prison was a fine port and its a fun map. Remember it was the first custom map (so we are talking old school in several ways) so got played a hell of a lot and yes we all pitched our tents on the spot where the trader is. All someone has to do is open up the bars from the other wing towards the trader and flood it with zeds and then the camp will be well and truely gate crashed.

Yes, except no one ever does that. It makes no sense to unless you're looking to up the challenge. The other trader isn't so far away you can't take the long way, fill up and make it back to the camp spot in time to have a cigarette before the wave comes.

First off. Lets not get to personal about maps. Everyone has different tastes and likes. I have a lot of custom maps on my servers. That is why I pointed him to there. He can make his own decision of what he likes and does not. I have only removed a few. Even though they looked wonderful. For reasons of. Perk up style only. Music is so loud and you can not turn it off. Game crashes all the time. So on.

For prison I enjoy the map. Not everyone just camps the cat walk by the trader. I have defended the middle several times with a group. It is not a run and gun. I know for a fact we have a group that likes this style. There is a thread dedicated to how they hate having to run in the open. They want to defend a area with a challenge.

This guy asked a very weird question. We do not know his tastes. It would like having a name brand item. Like Pepsi or Coke. Someone would ask which generic brand do you think is the most like Coke or Pepsi. Some might say Safeway's, No Albertson's, No Sam's Club, and ect.

So all we can do is point him in a dirrection so he can make his own choices.

I don't think he was non-specific. He asked what were good maps 'in the style of official KF maps.' Both visually and in terms of gameplay.

Graphics we can lay aside because the gap between high-quality maps and amateur maps is pretty obvious.

Official KF maps generally follow one game play principle: No area can be reduced a single point of entry for specimens. The only map that fails this test is Bioticslab, and only because of how pathing works vs. that single welded door. All other maps, in any area you can be attacked from at least two angles, and usually it's way more than that. They took this principle even farther with KF-Foundry, where you can be attacked from as many six angles when you're on the ground floor.

I've seen plenty of fan-made maps that violate this principle. Whether that's fun or not....that's up the player to decide. But if the question is which maps are closest to TWI maps in terms of looks AND game play....this is not a subjective answer. You can clearly describe maps that don't challenge the players like official TWI maps.

And not to bash KF-Defense....but it stands out to me. You have murder holes next to weldable doors, and llooooooonnnnnggggggggg stretches of open area to pick off specimen, and loooooooonnnnnggg corridors on the ramparts where you can funnel the specimen, and the lighting leaves nothing to the imagination so nothing sneaks up on you. You won't find those characteristics in any official TWI map, except Farm, which still challenges you with a night environment and plenty of cover for the specimen.

And to note...I like playing Prison now and again. Sometimes you just want to camp and watch stuff explode. I'm not knocking maps that build areas specifically for camping....but they are definitely less challenging.

now now, dont be jealous that i like other maps over some one else's. btw i love to play suicidal, and the maps i mentioned are to me the most fun on suicidal. I just recently found deathbasin and its very well done. props to aramus.
