I see a lot of potential here for this game. It is unique as there aren't many games like it. Most state that it is a successor to Jaws from back in the day. In a way, I agree but also I think it could be a lot more.
Of course, the first thing is the bugs. Those definitely need to be fixed. Another issue I would like to address that isn't a bug persay but is rather noticable is clipping/collision. You press the bite button and instead of eating the fish/creature. You go right through them or vice versa. I also had my shark get stuck in the environment when I was going through a gated opening. Latency issues between button and action. Loading at times instead of it being seamless when going into other territories and the crashes.
We can now get to the meat. I like the leveling to this game and the other creatures but I don't like how it puts on the breaks in not allowing the player to choose how they want to play the game. It is dictated a bit by the progress of the main line story. I think this is a mistake as it could give more freedom to the player to play as they choose if it wouldn't do that.
I like how there are locations and lots of collections. I think that could definitely be expanded on. The vast amount of sea life is awesome. I would like to see that grow further as there are so many aquatic animals. It would also be nice to find and have on the map schools or gatherings of certain animals to smooth out the grind. Not to mention to add some beauty to the game. In with more fish, turtles and other aquatic life. There should also be more of an ecosystem. Just to add into the immersion. Narwhals, dolphins, giant squid, mantas, rays, eels, crabs, crawfish, lobster, jellyfish, water snakes, sand shark, mega mouth, whale shark, thresher shark, sawshark, angel sharks, tuna, red fish, drumers, snapping turtles and etc. Could all add to the variety as some I know are in the game as scenery, but they can play a part. Could even add frogs/toads in the bayou. Good eating for a pup.
Not to mention more Apex Predators. I think it is wrong for lower level predators to attack when you are a higher level. Where they would only attack if they are attacked by you as the player. You are more than the Apex Predator that they shouldn't want anything to do with at that point.
It is interesting to have the bull shark to grow to such a size and it is awesome but can't really call it a Mega even when it gets to Mega level. Megalodon gets up to 50 - 70 feet long. Three times the size of a great white shark. That really isn't apparent within the game. Nor does it give you that raw feel as a Mega. Most of the smaller levels should be one bites without the progressive extras. Yet I found that they were still two to three bites. I was also disappointed that once you reach Mega. You can't level up your Mega. I really want to be a Megalodon in game. Could have humpback whales added in. When the player is a Mega, then you are a sight to behold. Hunters and sea life are weary in such a presence. Humpbacks are a meal but Sperm Whales give a decent challenge to a Mega as they are 53-66 feet in length. Smaller than a Ultra Mega though. In short, the Ultra Mega is more lethal than anything in the water. Only the hunter with all the advances could give it a good fight.
The leveling system should of gone up to 50 for 10 levels for each stage of the shark.
I like the progressive extras. The different sets that we can obtain and level up. It would have been nice to have a full set for the Tiger Shark skin. Then another set in addition to that. 5 sets would have rounded out pretty nicely. As well as unlocking at least two more organ blocks that can be active with the addition of unlocking more organs. Whether to help in further DLC or into a sequel. This could also expand territory and story with another devoted hunter. Even the addition of underwater currents could play into the game if it branches further into the gulf/ocean/lake/river.
Another thing that would enrich the game. Is when you swim pass seaweed or plantlife. They don't sway to your presence. It would be nice to be hidden if within seaweed. The tail when on the surface seems nonexistant as it doesn't make waves/ripples. Targeting your enemies should be easier as when you have them targeted and you click it. Then they should be homed in on unless detargeted. The target on R3 doesn't work like that. The lunge into a tail whip should be more fluid. It would be nice to have a bit more variety in some of the animations where they are a bit more natural and add to the immersion. Thrashing should be more automatic when in the jaws and given a greater precentage of it occurring as the configuration makes it difficult to pull off.
Thinking in terms of replayability. I think there should be a New Game + with a difficulty setting going from Easy; Normal; Hard; Elder and Mega. I also think that there should be another animal that is similar yet unique when compared to the Megalodon.
Sarcosuchus imperator which is a up to 40 feet long as the largest croc. Suppose to have a bite force that is greater than the T Rex. It would have unique gameplay but similar to that of the Meg. With its own unique sets and organs to be unlocked along with some of the same that is used for the Meg. Be able to switch between the two in the Grotto.
With such movies as Lake Placid and the Meg or Jaws. It would be fun to have such behemoths to play as. Maybe to have enough similar skits/events/situations that could mirror those of the movies without worrying about copyright/license.
I don't know if it is just me, but has anyone seen any people NPCs actually fishing? Surrounded by water and I haven't noticed any fishing or fishing boats lowering the nets or lobster/crab/crawfish traps. It would also be really nice to have it all seamless and perhaps have the sonar appear a bit differently. There doesn't seem to be in much of light rays within the water or waves. It would be nice to have that effect. Just a few things that might polish it up a bit.
What do you all think?
