It wouldn't add much and take up much more interesting roles. Even light mortars have a several man crew by the time you start figuring in ammo.

I would say that this should definitely be added as something mappers can add to maps. The commander should still be able to call larger mortars from further away ( these ones are the smallest you can get, there are larger morars that can fire further ) And all other artillery.

Where this stuff will become invaluable is on large combined arms type maps that we will see in the future.

Frankly, I really like the idea. I always enjoy playing artillery/support classes (which is why I love LMG so much), and something like this could be a lot of fun to play (having to silence a mortar position to keep it from shelling the objectives, or destroying you as you try to cross an open area).

That being said, it really wouldn't fit on a lot of the maps we have now. Giving players that much control over artillery would just be broken, especially on maps like Apartments or Spartanovka, where it's so narrow that any halfway decent operator could decimate the enemy team without trouble. Even bigger maps, like RO Factory or Fallen Fighters would be pretty broken by mortar teams.

Basically, I'd love them, but in a mod with huge, wide open battlefields like DH, not in tight CQC fights like HoS.

It's a great idea but I wouldn't like it if it replaced artillery. It could be a class by itself.

Never played Darkest Hour, but i always thought that playing with mortars would be hall of a fun, so yea i would be really happy if they were included in this game.

What really is great with it in DH is that it requires two people if you want to get the most effect out of it. You can change direction with the wheel on the mortal, left or right, or change the distance (minimum is 75m or something) and then your spotter can place marks on your maps to tell you where to fire. You can also press tab to leave the mortal to get ammo and such, and other players (I think) can also give you ammo.

Being able to use 2 or three mortal classes would be awesome IMO especially in terms of teamwork!
