I think the video in the background is the best idea, though it might take some time to load it while in-game. So I think they could make a special light in-game menu, with just the options over the game screen like in Counter Strike. No need for an awesome menu while in-game.

Looks nice, but the left half would be more suitable for a loading screen IMO. :)

(On the topic of loading screens, BC2 does that very well)

WWII-era footage would be suitable too, because copyright has expired.
That's a good idea!

I forgot that footage that old has no rights now. :D

A nice looking menu would be really important! Some of us will look 100 h or more on it.

I remember the menu of ROO was not very appealing. :( I hope TW will made it better this time.

A lightweight menu option would be nice. I'm tired of having to wait for the stupid menu to load in source games.

I meant there should be two menus, the main menu would be the heavy one with the video on the background and the other one is a lighter one that would only be shown while in-game. At the same time we could have an awesome menu, we wouldn't have to wait for it to load whenever we want to access the options while in-game

I would agree more with a BF1942 / BF2 stylish menu, true PC style.

As long as the menus are PCish, meaning no "Press enter to start" and a font of size "46" for console eyes. And please god no Dirt similar menus, they are so annoying and scream console..

Yeah, I agree with that as well, I just wanted to add that allowing it as an option for all the menus would be nice for us impatient people.

A menu with a video running on the background sounds pretty nice.
It doesnt have to be very heavy on your pc for loading times, i dont see why it would be any heavier than say, the commercial vids in KF lobbies except being larger and more high quality.

What i would like to see is a scene that kind of resembles both the initial art , the city limits in greyish tints with some explosions and the planes flying overhead. Basically the menu as displayed by Miro!
The camera moves towards the city, and shows some of the carnage that has already been done. No fighting, just empty streets, blown out houses, huge smoke columns and bodies lying everywhere.
Maybe move over a defensive position with germans or russians lying in wait for the enemy attack, with bodies lying in front of the position.
(maybe its best for them to be Russian, kind of to show the cliche of russians running into defensive position, not-one-step-back bull**** isnt appropriate for ROHOS)
The camera could go low on the ground moving past the head (mangled head?) of a body lying in front of that position and move through the streets untill it reaches the end of the street which goes a bit downhill and harbors the enemy soldiers waiting for an attack, invisible to the defensive positions.
As HOS theme song builds, the attack can begin. Some slowmow scenes of the camera moving through the assault with soldiers going down left and right etc.

But ofcourse the entire battlescene isnt needed and the streets could be empty except for the corpses and destroyed tanks throwing columns of smoke in the air, giving an atmosphere of doom and gloom.
As the music builds the camera moves in close through the carnage, while at the start its all relatively far away.

IMO I think a peaceful setting would be nicer, maybe have 3 or 4 different video clips, and have have them randomize. One with peaceful city, with some troops running around and such (of just one opposition) and another of the aftermath and/or actual battle.

Because in HL2 they would have different video clips depending on what chapter you where in. I thought I was pretty cool :D

1. Brief overview of the city under either aerial or artillery bombardment by a russian on a watch in a foxhole.
2. Germans marching near the city with overview of the city in sight.
3. Germans witnessing the effects of autumn rasputitsa (E.G. helping bogged horses and vehicles to get moving again).
4. Germans digging graves for some of their fallen comrades.
5. Russians moving cautiously on the streets as the danger is imminent, but nothing is (yet) to be seen.
6. Russians moving a wounded comrade from point A to point B while some fighting is seen in the background (muzzle flashes, dirt kicking in by impacts etc).
7. A sniper\sharpshooter seeing a soldier laying new field telephone cable on a street through his scope.
8. Germans feeling extreme cold during winter while smoking a pipe and trying to keep warm.
9. Overview of street with bodies frozen and laying around the place.
10. Germans heating their vehicles in order to get them moving.
11. Russians low crawling through a ditch.
12. Vehicle moving into obvious trap (vehicle driving on a street, soldier with molotov\satchel\grenade bundle being on a building next to it but the attack itself is not directly shown).
13. Russians scavenging ammunition from their dead comrades.
14. A german field hospital\something like that with plenty of soldiers wounded, some amputated, some currently requiring surgeon etc.

Each clip would be around 7-9 seconds long before it fades to a new one. This was made with the currently known 1:50 RO2 main theme clip in mind, so it may require some expansion once we hear the final.

menus are gamey, arcadey, unrealistic! you don't see menus in real life!

Realism above EVERYTHING!!

PS: Anyone who disagrees is a pre-teen CoD Kiddie. period.

A video playing in the background could really be interesting if it was in black and white and looked a little bit like guncam footage.

If I had my will come true Sabaton would make the music for this game.
Their music is primarily focused on ww2 and the Russians vs Germans , amazing metal band from Sweden.
