I believe there should be a special annotation pertaining the MG, in regards to its particular significance on the battlefield. Not only is fire support important, its the difference between success and failure. Effectively applying fire support will cause a distinct battlefield diversion, its presence being known by all in earshot of 800 meters. Consider the field of view that a MG has, its about 80 degrees and generally focused within a small grouping. If the MG is laying down fire, consider that an opportunity to advance. When he's reloading, that safety net he's laying down diminishes; which should be observed and respected.

Supporting the MG is paramount, not only for your safety but for your fun also. If there are active machine gunners covering an appropriate zone of fire, their job is to cover you and kill as many of the enemy as possible correct? If you run out into a field, and someone on the other team doesn't notice that MG there, they stand up to take shot and get super mowed down. Pretty tight huh.

Seeing as the MG is a support role, it's basically an infantry covering camping device, as the enemy line doesn't advance too drastically in most situations. Guard them, use them wisely and you'll flourish. An excellent example being what is ample on the floor of the battlefield - Machine guns and enough grenades to make a tremors movie. If you find one, pick it up. Same goes for any other role. I'm rarely anything other than a rifleman, as most of the weapons I could use are generally abundant on the ground of a hot spot.

Maybe read it first :p
Oh I did...

Most people understand what kind of significance the machine gunner has on the battlefield and that it's a support role. Would a special annotation really be that necessary and would it actually make a difference?

Yes. It's not that obvious. On the other hand - all classes should have their own specific training when all you get is short and very basic trial over some weapons and maybe some classes.

The way it is now - and will be - it doesn't mention a lot of helpful stuff and possible tactics/hints.

Nothing is more satisfying than calling out "Machine Gunners, fire on those windows" on Spartanovka/Fallen Fighters and seeing your MG teams open up with repeated short bursts, suppressing enemy snipers, riflemen, and machine gunners as your team moves up. If an MG is set-up with concealment and cover in mind as well as an open field of fire, it's a beautiful thing. Even more beautiful is when the machine gunners on your team respond to "Enemies at area X, MG teams please direct fire towards X" by laying down a ton of suppressive fire. Sometimes a kill appears here and there for them, but more importantly they're supporting their team's advance forward. On a side note, I'm terrified of 250RD drum belt MG-34s; it's like they don't stop firing.. ever.
